I have a couple hops laying around and want to make a nice APA that will showcase the carmel flavors from the malts but have a nice hop back to it.
I am looking at:
8# Uk Pale Malt
1# Caramalt
.5# Crystal
I have a combination of these hops to go with it:
Czech Saaz

Well I am a week and a 1/2 into primary. I thought that I would drip some off to take a hydro measurement and I am at 1.020. I had a slightly lower OG so I am going to keep it going for another week before I check another measurement, but I have to say I tasted it and without the vanilla bean...

More questions.. my lhbs.. is interesting.. they do things a little different here in New Zealand.. but i could not get Fuggles here would Nz syrian goldings (alpha 6.4) work as a good substitute? If so since it is a little higher with a 6.4 than the recommend fuggles how much would i put in...

I am finally off hiatus of brewing and can start up again! Just moved to New Zealand and found a really good scene here but have never heard of this method in this brew recipe. It says to steep grains in the oven for 35mins.. has anyone ever done this and how do you go about doing...
Can you explain the 35 minutes in the oven? I have never seen this technique before.. maybe.. because this is my first stout.. Any help would be great.Plus would there be any sub. for the cluster hops that I could use?

Yea finding specialty malts in germany are particularly hard.. Most of the time i find they just sell very generic malt types. No crystal 20, 40 etc.. I have re-looked into the recipe and thought that this might be something better.. on the lines of what you are saying.. closest thing i could...
So you think my ingredients I laid out will make a decent pale ale? The liquid extract is a good idea that saves about 8 euros or so:) any other ideas?
