    What Water Do You Use

Not talking about us getting sick, the beer being infected by bacteria and minerals from the water. There are things in water that are fine to drink but will ruin the beer. That's what he was talking about.

    Ever Watch "Storage Wars"?

Storage bin companies store your stuff for a set period of time. Time lapses, you don't get your stuff, it's the storage company's property (state law) and they auction it off. It's a crapshoot. You may win (profit), you may lose (loss). People have all sorts of reasons. A lot of the time they...

'Top on' or 'Top off'... for the boil!

I wouldn't. Fill your kettle to the recipe and do the boil. When you're done, then top it off with clean water.

20 Things Worth Knowing About Beer

Also, alcohol didn't make the water safe to drink. It was the boiling of the water that made it safe to drink but they didn't know that at the time.

    Boiling times on stovetop

If you dump them in all at once, it will drop the boil for a bit. When I add hops I sprinkle a bit at a time (for a 1oz add, maybe 1/3oz at a time). I'll make the add, stir for 30 seconds, add a bit more, stir for 30 seconds, add the remainder, stir and then set the stove timer for how long to...

All grain vs. Extract for beginner?

Even 4 hours is a bit much. Got a full plate: 4yo son, a daughter due in June, full time job, part time business and can't afford go go beyond the bucket kit I have now that I got as a present. I'll only be brewing a 5 gallon batch once a month. Something nice and easy to keep beer in the fridge...

Ever have a credit card number stolen???

You aren't getting what I'm telling you. I've been on both sides of the issue both as a cardholder and as a business that processes credit cards for payment. Aeromexico has a valid transaction from their perspective, ie someone bought a ticket online and the CC was valid and charged. If you...

Ever have a credit card number stolen???

The proper method would have been to perform chargebacks on the fraudulent charges. That would have voided the tickets and held the funds in suspension while the airline has to prove the actual cardholder purchased the tickets. If they cannot, then it's credited to your account. Mail a check...

'Top on' or 'Top off'... for the boil!

This is what I do. Help hold the heat in to get to a boil faster, then leave off during the boil.

    Kegging & Priming Sugar

I would pick one: natural (sugar) carbonation or forced (keg) carbonation. Not both. Keep it simple. Furthermore, if you ended up with 3.3 gallons, what was your recipe? Did you brew for a 5 gallon recipe? You should have topped off your water to 5 gallons before fermenting.

Do you always have to use a blow-off tube?

Krausen never got high enough to come close to the lid.

All grain vs. Extract for beginner?

I'll get to all grain eventually, but right now it's not on the radar. Brewing takes 2 hours from setup to cleanup doing all extract boils. I'm not going to get into all grain brewing until I can get a half barrel setup. For me the time versus production isn't worth while for all grain. I simply...

Do you always have to use a blow-off tube?

5.56. I keep the 7.62 in 5 gallon buckets and process in bulk. The 5.56 pictured is being sorted by headstamp for match loads. I'm a commercial reloader and sell locally. From what I've read and seen, it will ooze out of the airlock first, unless it's plugged. In that case a blow off tube...

Do you always have to use a blow-off tube?

I put my fermenter in a chopped 55gallon drum. Any overflow will be collected in the drum and not spill on the floor. It cost me nothing.

    Getting robbed sucks...

Sucks that someone broke in and stole your stuff. BTW, that's burglary, not robbery. This is a property crime not a personal crime. Even if you have insurance it's likely the cost of replacement is less than your deductible. Obviously your security is lacking so I'd fix that first thing. Not...
