    The 2016 NHC - Results/Speculation Thread

I'm 1 for 3 in Seattle. Amazingly enough i placed 2nd in Category 26 (26D) with my Pale Ale w/Sweet Orange Peel, Oatmeal & Wheat. But yeah, 61 entries is ridiculous!! I didn't realize that would be such a cluster, and the only reason I entered that beer is because another wasn't ready.

Anyone enter the National homebrew competition yet?

I'm entering my Oatmeal Stout, Saison and American Wheat. The wheat is being bottle carbed and just went into the bottles Monday so I'm cutting it close too. Should be fine though. Good luck all!

Creative Cooling Ideas for Small Batch Brewing?

Thank you all for the great info and advice, it's very helpful. I'm thinking I'll go the immersion chiller route as they aren't as expensive and overkill as I thought. Cheers!

Creative Cooling Ideas for Small Batch Brewing?

I like the idea of making one to fit my needs. Where's a good place to find the materials and instructions to make my own?

Creative Cooling Ideas for Small Batch Brewing?

I've been finding I use a bag of ice per gallon for wort, and it takes 20-30 minutes to cool. I can really only fit 1-2 bags of ice in my freezer. This is definitely the way to go for the 1-2 gallon batches. I ask this question because I recently bought an Anvil 5.5gal kettle, which will...

Creative Cooling Ideas for Small Batch Brewing?

I've been cooling my 1-2 Gallon batches with ice baths, but would like to brew 3 gallon batches and ice doesn't seem as practical with that size. Immersion chillers seem a bit overkill the that size. I am considering maybe a plate chiller, gravity fed, but not sure that would work. Anyone have...

Serving from a natually carbed keg without a regulator

Thank you all for the info! It will probably be some trial and error. I'll I'm not too concerned about the carbonation level with this keg... I may just have to drink it faster. ;) I'm hoping to have a tank and regulator soon, but since I lack extra space for a kegerator in my small apartment...

Serving from a natually carbed keg without a regulator

I don't have a full co2 setup yet (no tank or regulator), but I kegged some of my last batch in a 1.75 gal keg and primed it with priming sugar. I have a picnic tap, a mini co2 keg charger and plan to put this in my fridge to serve it. I don't plan to drink all of it within a few days, but maybe...

What is your most useless piece of brewing equipment?

Hydrometer for sure. Pretty useless for 1 & 2 gallon batches.
