Has anyone seen this before? Wild yeast?

Yea well it is a flocculant, so I bet that is your culprit right there. The only time in my experience I have seen something similar to this was when I didn't set the grain bed very well during my sparging, and I ended up getting a lot of extra proteins in my wort. If you started off with a...

Has anyone seen this before? Wild yeast?

Do you use irish moss or whirfloc tablets during your boil?

    Keeping a Saison hot?

I can also say don't go the heating blanket route. Temperature control is very difficult (unless you buy a really expensive blanket), and most frequently only have 2 or 3 temp settings., then you need to play with additional blankets or putting it at a distance to get the temp you want. Unless...

    Ginger beer worries

Seriously, what is in your "plus ingredients?" Are you trying to make beer out of only sugar and lime juice dude? Unless by brewing sugar you mean malt extract, which I suppose could still be considered "sugar"....

Adding pureed fruit into secondary using hop bag

So this was actually my first experience working with fruit, but I was very happy with how it turned out considering I kind of came up with a plan from scratch. After removing the skin from 8 pounds of frozen fruit (kiwi, peaches, and apricots; took me about 45 min), I pureed gently and put...

    Huckleberry syrup addition

Now that I think about it, this might be the best option since i only have 10oz of syrup. If I had real huckleberries that would be ideal, but i think this may still work out good. Now the real question is...hefe or wheat....

    Huckleberry syrup addition

I found a thread that suggested 1 1/4 cup maple syrup for 5 gallons. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/bottling-tips-homebrewer-94812/index9.html but I doubt it has as much sugar as maple syrup so I might want to up it a little bit.

    Huckleberry syrup addition

That was something else I was considering. What if I use the syrup in place of priming sugar when I bottle? Maybe that would be enough to add the subtle huckle flavor i'm looking for?

    Huckleberry syrup addition

Hey there! So i just picked up a bottle of huckleberry syrup while I was in yellowstone national park, and at first I was like..yum, this would be great on pancakes. But then i realized, it would be even yummier in beer!! I've brewed a few times, but have never used any syrup in a recipe. I...

    no carbonation after bottling

Yea 55F is pretty low, yeast won't be very active (are you lagering?). At 70F you should see some carbonation in 2 weeks for sure. Also what are you looking for as signs of carbonation? Head in your beer? Popping noise when you open the bottle? I've had a few bottles that didn't "pop" or have...

whatever happened to the homebrew shop?

In the Denver area I would HIGHLY recommend The Brew Hut. It is in Englewood (E Hampden and Parker), and has an attached micro brewery called Dry Dock. I went there for the first time the other day, and for one, their beers are delicious and you can carry them with you into the HBS, for two...

Turned my MLT into a MLTBB

Haha, on my last batch I used 1 5-liter flip top growler, 4x 1-liter flip-top bombers, and 21x 500ml flip-top blue bottles. Took me about a half hour to bottle! Still haven't opened my 5L yet, considering it holds about 10 beers worth, I'm waiting till the opportune moment.

Turned my MLT into a MLTBB

I realize bottling buckets aren't very expensive. I live in a small apartment and didn't really want to have another bucket floating around. Also I was able to modify my spigot on my MLT to hook up to my bottling wand for about $8. Here's what it looks like. I used a 3/8" inch to 1/2" elbow...

First brew and i need some help!

You won't get any bubbling once your yeast are done fermenting. There shouldn't be any fermentation going on in your secondary. If this is your first time brewing....just so you know...you don't have to transfer to secondary vessel unless you are planning on dry hopping or adding some thing to...
