What is the WORST beer you have ever had?

Here in England we have thousands of microbreweries spewing out questionable products. Lots of great ones too, but the strange belief that local cask products are the only beer worth drinking which has been put forward by CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) combined with tax breaks for breweries...

How do bar pumps and kegs work?

A couple of points on this - firstly almost all keg beers you will find on a bar will pass through a refrigeration unit at some point. Cellar temperature in the UK is usually between 10 and 14C, keeping at the preferred temperature for lagers would keep it far too cold for ales and there is of...

    Categorize these recipes?

If you are looking for an easy (and free) way to check what your recipes will turn out like without anything too complicated check out beercalculus.hopville.com. It won't give you buckets of information but you can see the differences small changes to your recipe will have on your beer.

What was your initial investment into your home brew setup? How has it changed?

I'm just starting out but spent about £70 (~$100), not including ingredients. A couple of books, 2x10l fermenting buckets, 2 airlocks, a bottle capper, some caps, hydrometer, thermometer (5 brews in I'm on my 3rd thermometer now), bottling wand. I'm still boiling on the stove top at the moment...

Brown Sugar / Cocoa / and Coffee

I did a little research trying to discover how much coffee was in a cup of coffee and came ip with this page; http://coffeefaq.com/site/node/95 which gave the figure of 55grams/litre I didn't want coffee to be the only flavour so tempered it a little - added 500ml fresh coffee at flameout...

Brown Sugar / Cocoa / and Coffee

I recently made a mocha stout, putting cocoa in with the boil and adding some freshly brewed coffee at flameout, then after fermentation finished racked onto whole coffee beans, a vanilla pod and some lactose (as it was a little more dry than I had anticipated). The cocoa has a bit of fat in it...

    Your Dream Brew Pub

Ah my favourite topic - I manage a pub for a local brewery but have no real say in the direction we take, thus I have a laundry list of changes that I would like to see made to have the perfect pub. 1. No children. Children do not belong in pubs. Leave your brats locked in the cellar at home...

    Spent Grain Recipes Anyone?

SWMBO has chickens - they love spent grain so I am encouraged to brew frequently. Chickens are great! Get chickens!

    Pub equipment!!

If the pub is closed down and is being turned into offices most of the beer lines will be useless, having had stale beer in them for a long time. Flojets and cellarbuoys are probably salvagable, and if there is a compressor in there it is worth its weight in gold, particularly if you have a...

    New brewer from Sheffield, England

Hello all, have just starting out brewing and have very recently bottled my first two 2 gallon partial grain brews. Will be looking to go all grain as soon as I can get the funds together for the equipment, which sadly won't be until after Christmas....probably quite a while after...
