    where to find pacman yeast

Damn, they didn't have it three week ago when I stopped in. Oh well, I just have to find somewhere that has the stout, none of the stores that I stopped in BP and Crystal carried any Rogue, except the Liquor Barrel in Crystal, they had the Hazelnut brown. Also, I shot for a 1.040-1.050 starter...

    where to find pacman yeast

I tried at harvesting yeast from the Hazelnut brown, but I don't think that I was sucessful. Stupid question, but how can you tell that you are actually stepping up the yeast instead of the trub from the DME? From what I've heard, the starters don't usually have a typical krausen, is that...

    Element rust no more!

The bases of the Camco anodes are steel, the Mg part is on the end, so cutting them really isn't an option.

    NB prices jump?

Too bad Rahr doesn't sell directly from their malting plant, since I grew up 5 miles from it and my parents still live there...

Drilling a hole in my brewpot

Thats exactly what I used with a step bit and it worked fine. Just make sure that the bit doesn't get hot. I checked it between steps, if was warm, I wated a minute or two and dipped the bit in oil to cool down.

Possible Electric build with silicone heat mats

It can be done, I know a guy that has a 30qt kettle that uses 3 silicone heating pads from McMaster. If I remember correctly, it'll bring 5 gal to a boil in about 1/2 hour. He did have it listed on ebay, but IDK if its still there.

    First batch brewed!

No steeping in a boil, I started the steep in 155*F water, by the end of the half hour, the temp was about 165-170.

    First batch brewed!

Brewed up my first batch Saturday night. It is the Honey Nut Brown Ale from Midwest Supplies. The process seemed to go reasonably well with a few minor errors to learn from. My first mistake was steeping the grains in the full boil volume (around 6 gal). For some reason I had a brain fart and...
