Yea older parts of Houston has that issue... run the water through a filter and it should be easy to solve. Down here (League CIty) my water is actually decent but I still filter it. drake

    aluminum sanke?

What do you mean by "the beer never touches these", if its a joint with solder, beer will touch the solder, solder basicly plugs up the hole/gap around the the two pieces and holds them together. The metallic taste could come from your copper or fittings (flux, solder), if not scrubbed clean...

nothing but the keggle lid question?

How about just using SS washers, nut and bolt and bolt a washer on both sides? You can find flat "o-rings" that can be uses as a moister barrier if you wanted on the bottom washer.

Any gripes with fan based stir plates?

If you can make one these work on a 5 or 6.5 gallon carboy I would love one :) Tough to get a single stirrer to work with the void on the bottom created by the curvature of the glass.

The cure for your short hose troubles

These things would work great in a Immersion CHiller or a HEX ..... breaks up the boundary layer on the inside of the tubing for better heat exchanges.... just my two cents.
