The last couple partial mashes I had a hard time getting a temperature reading. I use one quart of water per pound of grain. I throw a floating thermometer into the pot with the mash and there isnt enough water to get a good reading. When I try to get a reading from a lab themometer it changes...
I just got a new regulator but there was no shutoff valve attached to it. I was hoping to bottle some beers for a get together tomorrow (via beer gun), is it necessary to have the shutoff valve at the regulator?
Cheers
I'm trying to attach a Y splitter to my tank so I can use my recently purchased beer gun but I'm having a hard time getting the shutoff valve off of the regulator (the shutoff valve was installed to the regulator when I bought it). Is there a secret to getting it off or is it possible that it is...
I have a 7.5 gallon stainless steel brewpot and when doing large boils my stove has trouble keeping a rolling boil. My question is whether it is safe to have a the brewpot over two burners since some of the flames will be going up the side of the pot. Thanks and cheers!
I planted these about almost 2 weeks ago. The centennial is doing well and the Cascade is trying to catch up. And yes that is snow in the background. Thats what I get for living in Minnesota.
I don't have a racking cane. I use an auto siphon. Also I am using S type airlocks.
If I pitch now do you think I'll have time to get to a hardware or homebrew store in time to prevent a mess?
I just moved into a new place and realized that I misplaced my blowoff tube. I just finished cooling my wort and topping off my carboy and have yet to add my yeast (in a starter). As I cant get a new blow off tube until tomorrow what would you suggest I do. Thanks in advance.
After looking at Beersmith and Promash I couldn't see how to enter a certain amount of DME as a late addition. Is there a common formula used for IBU's with a late addition?
Thanks a ton for everyone who has chimed in on this thread. I'm brewing this for my girlfriend for her birthday and...
How does this look:
6# Wheat DME
3# Light DME
.5# Carapils (steep)
.5# Munich (steep)
I would use the 6 pounds of Wheat DME as the late addition (around 10 minutes?)
I've been wanting to brew an Oberon clone for quite awhile now but haven't seen any recipes for extract so I am trying to convert an AG recipe from Cweston (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=31422). Could i please get some feedback on whether this will work? Thanks.

I read a cool article in my local zine about a pig farmer who goes to all the microbreweries and brew pubs in town and picks up all their spent grains to feed his pigs.
Gravity readings help to determine if fermentation is complete. If the gravity doesn't change over a few days then you will know that it is done. Also you can determine the ABV and ABW of your beer. Right now your beer would only be a 2.8% ABV so i highly doubt it is done.
