    BIG BEERS in the RoboBrew\Brewzilla

Give it a shot and let us know - I’m in the same boat, just brewed 2 batches that had a big grain bill. First was just over 19# - did it all in the kettle, was tough, efficiency was low but not horrible, not much trouble. I did mash for an extra 30 min. second was 23# - I decided to do 17...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

This is very intriguing - I’ve been using a tube but I think this may solve some of my concerns - I haven’t used the top screen in a while because I dig stirring (makes me feel like I’m doing Something), but the screen keeps grains Down, overflow keeps water flowing...interesting

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Explain the term 2 step mash - you split the grain and mashed twice in the kettle? Or two different mash temps? in my case, I set temp at (158) and the kettle maintains, but the top of the mash falls to mod 140s. Efficiency drops, a lot. I missed my og by .3 on this last brew. Still looks...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Did a search, didn’t see anything - anyone else have a problem getting consistent mash temps on large grain bills? My last two have been around 18# (one I had to do a couple lbs in another pot), but I’m noticing low flow through the grain won’t keep upper temps at the right spot. Any solution...

    Gravity measurements

Hi - quick question on the tools used for gravity measurements - pros / cons i use a triple scale hydrometer. Pro - cheap and easy. Con - fragile, subject to misinterpretation what are the benefits of the other types in use? I’m getting tired of buying one of these every couple months. Seems...

When to step up from Extract to All Grain?

Flexibility, like most said here, but also cost. Extracts are expensive, and sometimes the cans look like they’ve sat around for a while. 4 extract brews, one a clone that was darn close, one partial mash with a home made mash tun that was a dismal failure, and 23 (24 by the time some read...

    Hop spider issue

I have a pump on my cooker, so I recirc through the spider. Interesting pics, thank you. I haven’t put mine in sanitizer ever, might be the issue. I rinse with sprayer and dry, didn’t expect resins to get on it.

Big non-dark long term storage beer - which one?

Hm forgot about ipas, generally don’t recommend them as heavy beers, but I brewed a dogfish head 90 min about a year ago, half were gone in a month, other half I just started drinking, outstanding. a little less hoppy, but still there.

Big non-dark long term storage beer - which one?

I'm a fan of belgian triples &quads. Most need a bit of aging And can be tailored easily If you don’t specifically like the class. There’s some decent wee heavy recipes too -

    Hop spider issue

Hi, happy new year. Celebrating the end of this dreadful year with a Belgian quad. always used a hop spider, never any issues even when I made dh60 clone which seemed to have more hops than grain. Today, it’s clogged. Not a lot of hops, 3oz, but it plugged after the first add. thoughts?

    When to add vanilla beans?

Well this explains why my vanilla beans seem like they did nothing in my stout lol I just tossed them in the fermenter. Lesson learned, still got beer...
