    Top 50 beer list...

Another Southern Brewery. FTW. I can't in good faith call Kansas City the South. Feels weird,

Suprised that Sam Adam's Boston Lager made it, less suprised that Noble Pils made it. Both are great beers, but most of us see ourselves as "beer hipsters" and those fall very close to the mainstream.

Abita makes excellent beers. Unfortunately, the ones that get distributed (Turbo Dog and Purple Haze) are the poorer side of their offerings. Restoration Ale is a classic.

Boulevard is actually Kansas City I believe, maybe St. Louis. More Midwest-y. There are great beers being made in the South, but the beer culture here does lag behind the rest of the country (Reconstruction, Carpetbaggers, etc.). However, breweries like Terrapin (Athens, GA), Sweetwater...

    Beer Wars Documentary

Whatshername may have been using a little hyperbole when she used the word "force", but her point remains the same.

    Chattanooga TN

Taco Mac on market street also has a pretty good beer lineup, as does Hair of the Dog across the street. Out of all the suggestions, the best overall experience is probably the Terminal. Good food and varied beer selection that is of decent quality.

    Idiot beer snobs-

How, really? Here in Tennessee (a state with some of the strangest beer laws around) most stores seem to have two separate sections; one for the BMC and their brood and one for the smaller breweries. These sections are usually separated by the "make your own sixpack" sections that have loose...

The reader base for Zymurgy (read: the AHA membership) must be regional. Lots of Northeast, Midwest and California/Pacific NW.

    Top 50 beer list...

This is the list from the AHA that was printed in Zymurgy. I've noticed that zero Southern brews appear in the top 50. No Sweetwater (make the best commercial IPA I've tried), Terrapin (Their Rye PA is immaculate), Highland, Yazoo, French Broad, etc. Lots of good beers being left out, but I...

    Idiot beer snobs-

I thought the bit about beer placement on grocery store shelves and exactly who determines which beers go where was very interesting as well. Now when I go to my local grocer, I'm cognizant of what is where. I also think that the practice talked about in Beer Wars has been largely discontinued...

Absolutely the best way to do it. Scientific method and whatnot.

    Idiot beer snobs-

Nothing wrong with urging people to watch "Beer Wars". Just another perspective on the beer scene in America to which the average viewer wouldn't be exposed. I wouldn't call it a hack-job by any stretch of the imagination. The point is for consumers to make an informed decision, regardless...
