    Lowes Plastic Hoses/Tubing

I use it for my blowoff tubes, siphon tubing, and my keg to tap lines. Have not had any ill effects yet. I do not siphon from my brew kettle to my fermenter because I just dump it, usually a few times to aid oxidation.

    Bottled Homebrew and Sporting Events

Mr. Beer kits have you bottle with plastic bottles. I know many of us are more advances than that but it is what I started with. I still bottle sparkling hard cider in these bottles and use soda bottles (12 oz, 20 oz and 1 liter bottles) when needed. I mix all of the caps and haven't had any...

Maple sap for water for beer?!

It can add a bit of woodsy flavoring but boiling it down is much better. I boiled 6 gallons down to 2 and then steeped some grains for a maple porter last fall.

Whatja Drinking for the Big Game?

Started off with a couple DFH 60 minute ipa's. Then started pulling the tap on my Harpoon Winter Warmer modified clone and just poured the first beer of my 4 C's IIPA. I went into the game not caring who wins because my Pats blew their shot but I would not mind seeing a great comeback. Lets...

    Brewing in the frickin' cold!

I just finished brewing about 20 minutes ago and did it all in the unheated shed outside. It was damn cold, even with the burner cranked during the boil. Couple extra homebrews helped me stay warm and now I will have another full keg in about a month. Gotta love making beer up here in nh! And...

18 inches of snow = time to brew

Just over 14 inches up here in my backyard and the snow is still coming down at a good clip. Good thing the weatherman only said it would be 5 - 8... wish I had something sitting around to brew. Instead my plan is to finish off my keg of blueberry wheat and get it ready for my harpoon winter...

    growler sanitization

If I pour boiling water in the growler, or boil it in water won't it crack?

    growler sanitization

That's what I was thinking but read some off tasting beer posts. I think cleaning without sanitizing is my only option

    growler sanitization

So I get to attend a few Christmas parties tomorrow and a of course I want to bring a few growlers with me. I ran out of c brite this weekend and want to know if there is another way to sanitize the growlers. I have oxixlean free but I think that's only a cleaner. Can I bake them in the oven...

    the great debate

I also forgot to mention that the secondary would be a 5 gallon glass fermenter and I plan on leaving the wort until at least february

    the great debate

So I have been following the use of a secondary versus the leave it in the primary to age debate for some time now. 3 weeks ago I made 5 gallons of an imperial stout and pitched two packets of yeast into two 6.5 gallon buckets allong with around 2.5 gallons of wort in each bucket. (My...

    Great Holiday Ale Extract Recipe

I am almost sure I have read on here and other sites that you should never boil cider because it created off flavors. Don't know if it is true but might be worth researching.
