All-Grain Brewing with Extract Brewing Equipment (pics)

That's good news it can withstand the heat of a turkey fryer (I also use one for BIAB). We have similar 'super auto parts' stores here, so perhaps I'll look for some next time I'm driving by one of those stores. Thanks for the info!

Hi Rico...what did you use to insulate your pot? I've been looking to do something similar as well. Is your stove gas or electric? Thanks!

Using a pasta maker to mill grain.

Great idea with the anti-slip tape! Please keep us posted on how long it lasts (ie will it at least do a complete batch). The problem I was having with flour bits clogging up the grippers might not be so bad with the tape as the grit faces out as opposed to in.

Using a pasta maker to mill grain.

I've been trying to use my pasta roller now for the last few batches. I've been running into a few problems though. It works great for the first 1/2 kilo of grain I put through it, but then a fine flour dust seems to fill in and stick to the knurled bits and it will no longer pull the grain...

    Wheat Bulgur?

Thanks for the suggestion to use puffed wheat. Does it go straight into the mash? What is the maximum amount (%) you would suggest when mashing with normal 2-row? A bit of toasty flavour from the bulgur might be nice, but perhaps if I used to much it would overwhelm the beer.

    Wheat Bulgur?

I'm hoping to make a wheat beer this summer, but am having a hard time tracking down the right kind of wheat. I assume it needs to be 'pre-cooked'? I've used instant oats before right into the mash for making an oatmeal stout as I understand they've already been cooked and just need to have hot...

    Wheat Extract in Ontario

Brewtime on Upper James (www.brewtime.ca) definitely sells wheat extract. I think the manufacturer is Munson or Coopers? It comes in a can similar to a standard hopped-extract kit. They also sell pale malt extract (fresh) for under $7/kg and have great service. I'd highly recommend visiting...

    More Ovaltine please!

I've always wondered what would happen if you threw a 'coffee substitute' into a mash. It's usually got one or two ingredients on it...mainly roasted malted barley & sometimes roasted chicory root. Please keep us posted how the olvaltine goes!

All Grain Blue Moon Clone Recipe

Thanks for the suggestions! There's an asian grocery store around the corner from my house that has at least 100 types of white tea, so maybe I'll sample one or two of those to see which one would go well with the brew.

All Grain Blue Moon Clone Recipe

This recipe looks awesome...I think I'll try to brew this as soon as spring rolls around and I can get back to all-grain brewing outdoors! My question though is regarding the chamomile tea. My wife hates the stuff and seems to be able to detect it at rates less that 1 ppm (or somewhere around...

How big of a pot for BIAB?

7.5 Gallons might be a tad small for the Aussia BIAB (one pot) method. I use a 42Quart (10.5 Gallons?) for a standard 6 US Gallon batch, and have only 2 or 3 inches of headspace by the time you get the preboil volume + grains in there. I picked up the pot & burner for under $100 at walmart and...

    Interesting herbs and spices

Yes, that is the beer I had! Quite a unique treat if you can find it. I believe the sell it around here (Ontario) around this time of year at the LCBO packaged up as a Christmas gift pack. I think I'll try to pick up a little 'gift' for myself the next time I'm there!

    Interesting herbs and spices

I had a Scottish Heather beer once. Apparently it used to be a common beer ingredient in the old days before hops were used. At least that's the story they told on the bottle anyways. As a tasting note, the beer was delicious. I recently had a beer with a 'mystery ingredient' that we had to...
