Cigar City Brewing makes a Maduro Brown Ale which I believe uses Spanish Cedar like you would get from a cigar box. Def avoid using actual tobacco as it is poison, just 1 cigarette dissolved in water and consumed can kill you.

I wouldn't say its largely irrelevant, lots of germans are very proud of their history and try to preserve it (they even banned non traditional music at oktoberfest during certain hours)

Yeah but then there is sediment/clarity issues, some germans like beer with yeast but most breweries keep their beers crystal clear (unless its a hefe...)
get some lemons (I would recommend organic since the skin is where most of the pesticides are and we need the skin)
zest them (that is take off the yellow part of the skin but leave the white pith)
pour some alcohol in a bottle or some sort of container you can keep sealed for a couple weeks...
Cane sugar is fine
Also american brown sugar is just cane sugar and molasses... so if you just bought a jar of molasses it would be cheaper (and they probably sell that in austria?)

Flour doesn't do anything for yeast (they can't eat it...)
You could probably find wheat/barley on the island for beer if you wanted (as for specialty malts you can make toasted malt but not much else)
It may have a strong yeast flavor (well ester flavor) because its dry so there isn't anything to compete with flavor wise
