How to get Beersmith on a Mac??

I'm new as well. Just got a Mac due to the hard drive crashing on my PC. When buying I talked with the sales person about my brewing addiction. He suggested installing a program called parallels. It allows you to run part of the system in microsoft and the rest in apple. If you ask for more...

Day off = 10 gallons of SWMBO Slayer

Great response! I am surprised that the higher gravity beer was brewed with a yeast that had a higher attenuation rate. Glad your beer turned out! John

Day off = 10 gallons of SWMBO Slayer

Just a thought but, I have gone to the website for the manufacturer of the yeast to read up on the expected characteristics. Did you do this? If so what are the differences between the 2 yeast's? John

    Is this possible???

Just tried one tonight and it was way to sweet! To the point that I'm going to dump the batch. I think POL was correct with the stuck fermentation. At least next time I'll know what to look for! Thanks!

    Is this possible???

I want to thank everyone for their responses! It's very clear that I was shorted LME. What's still a mystery is the 1.026 FG. I had not thought of a stuck fermantation. As I had indicated, fermantation began within 24hrs and lasted for 6-7 days with the airlock bubbling away. Temp was 64F...

    Is this possible???

The container was about the size of a quart milk jug. Wish I had checked the weight! The temp was down at about 68 when I pitched. Even if they did short 4lbs, how did it only go from 1.030 to 1.026?

    Is this possible???

It was actually LME, sorry for the confusion! It was a partial boil with about 3 gallons of water to be added. Once the wort was added I shook it very hard to ensure it was mixed. I agree that 4 lbs are very difficult to overlook. The container used was not their regular and was of a size...

    Is this possible???

Bought an extract kit from B3 for their Alt recipe. It had steeping grains and supposedly 8lbs of light LME. When I made the recipe the OG was 1.030. As you might expect I was stunned. I then checked the hydrometer with water and it came out at exactly 1.000. Called B3 and explained that I...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

Yuri - I had nothing (cheesecloth) to steep the pumpkin spice mix in and just added to the secondary after cooling. Did this yesterday afternoon and this morning before I left town it looked ugly. I'm going to let it run it's course. Any thoughts?

    Bad Fermentation?

Just checked and it is alive and fermenting well! Sorry for the over reaction, just never seen anything like it. Revvy, you are correct, JPUF!

    Bad Fermentation?

Toastermm - should have let everyone know I moved it to the basement only for the cooler temperature. It was in a sealed carboy for the trip down. Only took off one cap to install the air-lock....

    Bad Fermentation?

No pictures sorry! Just heard back from another guy and he felt it might be to early for nasties to have taken over. Might just be the yeast still getting it's act together. Just totally different than I've seen before. Cheers...

    Bad Fermentation?

Yesterday I finished brewing a full boil IPA. Pitched last night at about 72F. Went to the basement to check on it and found that there were 2 cloudy/milky balls of yuk just below the surface. This is my 11th homebrew and have seen nothing like this. Any thoughts???

    hello from fairfax, va

Paul, I am new to brewing as well, on my 3rd batch. Currently live in CO but grew up in NOVA and was recently back there on business with some dead time. Set out one morning to look at local brew shops and really liked the Flying Barrel in Frederick MD. Enjoyed the staff and they seemed to...
