    New to Homebrewing; Bottleing questions.

For what it's worth, I sanitize all my bottles via the dishwasher. A wash with the sanitize setting enabled, and a couple of scoops of oxyclean do it well for me. The oxyclean also removes the labels (and softens most that don't fall off, enough to scrape off) Clear bottles will work, but...

    In praise of SWMBO

You have to love a good SWMBO who wants to assist in brewing. Mine is really most interested in helping me bottle, as that's the hardest part of my process. I think she does it so that she gets the "Bottling *****" title on my labels. :D

    Bottle Conditioning in a GROWLER??

(from a post I made a while back, nearly a year ago, as I look at the date) Ok, this bashing of proper screw on growlers has got to stop. I use them regularly (1-2 for each brew, more if I have them empty). You simply have to use the right screw-on-top. Air locks - Rubber stoppers - Screw...

do not worry about poor growing 1st year palnts

My 2nd year Galenas are budded out nicely. I can't wait to make my first brew with them. The 2nd year Willamettes grew to about 10ft, but no cones. It was a wee little rhizome when it planted, and only was about 3ft tall last year. I expect that next year will be amazing for the Galenas, and...

    Shrink wrap screw-top growlers?

I can't agree more. I came into the thread to post the link to those exact caps. Every batch of beer I brew is put into at least 2 of these, often 3 or 4. No problems with carbonation, no problems with pressure. Good advice, even if it comes from someone from Lynn. :D (I come from a...

How much 'sanitation' is too much?

Count me in as a user of the "Dishwasher sanitize setting." Never had a problem with any infections from this method. As long as the bottles were clean prior to loading in the dishwasher, you're good to go.

    A quick #9 question

So you can add CHERRY flavor, instead of the apricot! :mug: My Popped Cherry #9 has been a big hit. It's nothing more than the CloneBrew recipe, with cherry extract (full 4oz bottle) rather than the apricot.

    Bottling in Growlers

Ok, this bashing of proper screw on growlers has got to stop. I use them regularly (1-2 for each brew, more if I have them empty). You simply have to use the right screw-on-top. http://www.homebrewit.com/aisle/3040 Polyseal caps will solve any and all carbonation problems. I've opened...

slow steady bubble stil after 2 weeks. Normal?

My American wheat ales, 1 w/ 9# DME, the other with 6# DME are still bubbling away at about the same rate, and about the same time frame (2 weeks). As I'm heading on vacation Wednesday, they'll be in the fermentors for another week, and bottled on 8/29. (Took the day off, so bottling is as...

Is this the same thing as BYO's 150 Clone Brews?

The book in the OP is good, but has a whole boatload of beers that, while I'm sure are great, I'll never be able to find prior to brewing to sample. I have used that book several times, and had great success with it. I recently picked up the North American version, and my only complaint is...

Help with a Big Barleywine based off my Ipswich Ale recipe

Well, I bought the cooler, I've printed a photo of the parts along with the parts list. Looks like this'll be in construction soon, and in use after the next brew. I picked up the North American "CloneBrews" book, and his recipes there are all in PM, so this became the time to upgrade...

    OXY-CLEAN Rules!

Ah... but soap is ... soap. Not good for head retention. Oxyclean, in proper quantities (I use one scoop for a 5-6 gal fermentor) is great stuff, and fairly cheap. Works wonders in the dishwasher for removing labels at the same time that I'm sanitizing. (I clean bottles once emptied, so...

    64 oz Growler?

I just posed this in another thread about growlers, and I use these a lot. http://www.homebrewit.com/aisle/3040 Polyseal caps.

    can i bottle in growlers????

You want the Polyseal Screw caps found here. I regularly bottle into 1/2 gallon growlers and use these caps. They are reusable (remember to sanitize). They hold carbonation just fine, and I've noticed better flavor from the 1/2gallon size (ageing in bulk) vs my 12 or 22oz bottles... could...
