    Purposefully under-pitching WLP300/WY3068

I have this exact beer in the keg now. Brewed from JZs recipe from that book. Used WLP300. That said, I used a 1L starter and the yeast went nuts! No idea how much I lost on the blowoff while on a stir plate. Pitched, held at 62 and I get plenty of banana. Too much. Next time, I'll try for less.

    Too thin mash?

I noticed my thinner mashes didn't hold the temperature as well. I mash in a 10 gallon Igloo. I measure temp at mashin as well as mashout/pre-sparge. The thinner mash appeared to drop 5-7 degrees over the hour.

    East bay area clubs

I'm in DOZE. Good club, nice folks, LOTS of knowledge and a wide range of experience from brand new extract brewers to pro brewers.

    Well, that sucked

How did I do it? My best guess, temp changes caused some of the water to get sucked into the tube. I raised the growler and tube to hand off, must have raised it high enough it started to siphon out of the growler. I'm not dumping unless it gets furry. Just needed to vent my frustration.

    Well, that sucked

Tap water that had a blowoff tube in it for about 3 weeks.

    Well, that sucked

While moving my carboys around to prepare for kegging, I somehow managed to pour the water from my blowoff tube overflow growler back into the carboy. I may have destroyed my beer. Or, may have added a secret ingredient that I'll never be able to reproduce. Well, that sucked.

    Gelatin Finings

My reading indicates, colder wort/beer is better. And yes it can be carbonated. I did this a few weeks ago to a keg. Worked like magic.

Hello from the San Fran East Bay!

Welcome fellow East Bayer! I'm all for brewing experiments but have you considered just chewing on various grains to see what the difference is? Might Save some time and money.

    Plastic vs glass?

thughes, I only had buckets and carboys on this go around. Depending on the results and interest, I may do other experiments.

    Plastic vs glass?

I started the glass/plastic experiment because I wanted some sort of repeatable proof that I could move to buckets and not have any side effects. My initial results seem to indicate that I could probably move to buckets but will need to tweak something to the exact results as glass. More to come..

    Plastic vs glass?

I'm running that experiment RIGHT NOW! The details are at: http://buckshotbrew.com/?p=9 I've kegged both batches and did an initial tasting. There were differences. I will bottle a few and take them to the local homebrew club for tasting notes which will then be posted for all.

    Fly sparging?

My process: Mash for 1 hour (or until conversion complete) Vorlauf until no grain bits are in wort Fly sparge for ~45 minutes If it's a 5 gallon batch, the brew kettle just sits and collects wort. If it's a 10 gallon batch, I start to fire up the brew kettle once I have an 1-2 of wort. I do...

    what to do

Your OG reading seems to be a little off. I'll assume you mean 1.050 and 1.014. Regardless, ignore the air lock for now. You took a reading and got 1.014. Try again tomorrow or the next day and see if it changes. If not, rack it. Otherwise, let it ride. Side note, based on the numbers you are...
