For winter chilling, pick up a 1/4 to 1/2 hp sump pump. I put water out in a big cooler the night before, about half full, it freezes, then brew morning i put water on top of that. That leaves me with a huge cooler half full of ice and water. I use the sump pump to recirc that thru the chiller...

Both doors would be removed and the entire fridge/freezer would be wide open into the cool space. So it will all be at one temp, no freezer per se.

I currently have 4 carboys going in my big freezer and 2 more in an improvised space. My big freezer is going to be converted to a serving freezer. I like the idea of the upright freezer also, however I have a spare fridge from my kitchen remodel.
