    IPL Recipe - feedback appreciated

The MO was my last change before posting - I originally had 10lbs of pilsner. Well, I originally had 13lbs and was going for closer to 7% but we decided to bring it back a little and adjust keeping the carapils and munich ratios the same. My thinking with substituting some MO was to get more...

    IPL Recipe - feedback appreciated

It's our first time lagering and we'd like to try an IPL. After doing some reading and thinking about what we'd like, we landed on this recipe. We'd like something hop-forward while retaining traditional lager flavors. We'd also like something on the sessionable side to enjoy after working in...

    Feedback: NEIPA

Beersmith says 33.5 and I would guess that's about right - there is a mild bitterness (which I like) but not much. How generous? During the WP, I did 1.5oz at 170 degrees, 1.5oz at 120 degrees and then 4 ounces at high krausen. I saw the same thing - fermentation was super fast. Way faster...

    Feedback: NEIPA

Just wanted to thank you again for the feedback. With it I modified the recipe (Beersmith) and after carbing, the feedback today was "Oh ... wow ... that's really good." The color and mouthfeel are dead-on. The taste is great but I have some ideas to tweak it a little (don't we always?)...

    Feedback: NEIPA

Mouthfeel is exactly what I had hoped for from them. Since I don't have a HLT, I have been batch sparging. Looks like Palmer says in HTB that the rest is only needed when you hit 25% of the mash - I'll try bumping the oats for a bit more mouthfeel. Will probably sacrifice the carapils to do...

    Feedback: NEIPA

That's a lot of oats. Is that going to require a beta-glucanase rest? Any idea what that would do to head retention (which is why I added the carapils)? I'm sure you're right. I started doing 90 minute boils a few months ago when I was using more pilsner malts and 10g batches. In this...

    Feedback: NEIPA

My wife has asked for "something hoppy but not too bitter" for an upcoming party - so why not jump on the bandwagon and go for an NEIPA? Everyone else is doing it, right? Instead of just doing a clone of someone else's clone, here's my stab at it. This is based on a 6 gallons into the fermenter...

    WTB Chugger pump

Appreciate the response. I was actually hoping to find something used to keep the costs a bit lower.

    WTB Chugger pump

Looking for a used chugger pump - moving around hot water by hand is getting tedious (and risky).

    Checkin in from MN

(Not that you asked me ... but we're all Minnesota Nice here :) I grew up in Golden Valley (and called MN home for about 22 years). While I don't miss the winters (much), I do look forward to moving back someday (soon). Happy brewing! Robert.

Hello from Holly Springs, NC (near Raleigh)

Growing up in Minnesota I always looked forward to the elementary school ritual of visiting a local farm where they still pressed their own apples for cider. The process fascinated me. As I grew older I realized that cider is ok, but a good beer is where it's at. Eventually I moved to the big...

First boil done ... questions about what's happened and what's next

Thanks all for the replies - it seems like I did alright, then. Back to trolling to learn more about the next steps...

First boil done ... questions about what's happened and what's next

First post (and batch) - but reading posts for a few weeks now. Lots of great info that has been really helpful. The quick history - got a home brewing kit for Christmas and did the first boil yesterday. It's already bubbling up (a good bubble every few seconds through the airlock) and...
