Right now drinking my 3rd
Installment of Red Wolf IPA, pacific northwest edition. 7 oz of hops used, most added with 10 mins left on the boil, then 2 oz of Simcoe dry hopped after 8 days in fermenter. It's deliciously hoppy :-)
Next weekend I'm experimenting with a hop-forward kolsch bier. Just...
Yes seeing the krausen was very reassuring. And after some very steady and gentle rotations of the fermentor pail, bubbles did appear in the airlock ;-) just to be on the safe side I duct taped around the seal of the lid and made it certainly 100% airtight now. As for hydrometer readings I was...
Cracked the lid, used starsan to sterilize my hydrometer, and it went in deep, like to 990...but temp reading on bucket's thermometer tape is 70-72 degrees. Needs to be 60 degrees for accurate reading right? The appearance is looking very foamy at the top. Maybe an inch of foamy hoppy fluff...
IPA wort was transferred to fermentor Sunday afternoon, pitched one packet of Safale US-05 yeast on top of wort once it was in the fermentor then closed the lid (tight seal). Should I pitch in another packet of yeast and stir with a sanitized spoon to get it working in there?
Hey all thanks for the reassurance! I will heed the tips on angling my fermentor. As for the dry hops my recipe said to dry hop between 5-10 days after it's been in the fermentor...and leave it for another 5-10 days before bottling...then 2 weeks in the bottles. It's a similar IPA to Brooklyn...
I thought it would add to the flavor of the IPA I'm making. However after reading in Palmer's book that only a little residue should make it into the fermentor I am getting worried. Should I skip the dry hop addition in 7 days from now? Since there is so much hop residue already in my fermentor?
Thanks CloneFan94! Def better to be safe than sorry and it was a LOT of ice and work to cool the wort down, the top off water thankfully was at room temp by then.
I'm about to rack my IPA wort to my fermenter, True Brew bucket (first time brewer, today is the first brew)...just curious, should I soak my airlock in star San before inserting it into the hole the top of my bucket lid? Also I boiled my top off water like 2 hrs ago and have been letting it...
