    What went wrong?

Something went wrong with the fermentation process of my most recent batch. So about two days after I pitched the yeast, my airlock blew off from such a vigorous fermentation. I attached a blow off tube and it seemed to ferment well as time went on. I checked the gravity about 7 days after brew...

My beer taste kinda like a cleansing solution?

It could be a multitude of things. I have been reading lately and a lot of people who extract brew have described this same taste in all of their beers. I am going to try to perfect my extract process, and then see if I can still find that taste in my beer. If I can, I may try to move to all grain.

My beer taste kinda like a cleansing solution?

That does make a good amount of sense.

My beer taste kinda like a cleansing solution?

Yeah that's what I was looking for. Like acetone. I had my fermentation temp locked down pretty well. This leads me to believe it was something to do with sanitation. I just usually make a couple of gallons of solution as suggested by my sanitizer (Austin homebrew brand) and soak everything and...

My beer taste kinda like a cleansing solution?

It's a Texas blonde from AHB. It tastes bitter a bit from the hops but then kinda chemically as well. What could be the problem here? My guesses are I didn't strain it before I put it in the primary (leaving the hops in the primary) or I left it in the primary too long? Experienced brewers I...

I just got an amazing craigslist deal. What is your best score?

Just got a kegerator. Holds two cornys and has a place for the co2 tank. Got the fridge, dual regulator, all the lines, two large co2 tanks, dual chrome tower, two wooden chalk board handles, and a drip pan. Oh not to mention he threw in two ball lock kegs with the kegerator purchase. Got this...

When to move beer to second fermentation stage

The only way your going to know how the fermentation process is going is to check the gravity. The airlock lies. Trust me. Do you know what the original gravity is and do you know what the final gravity is supposed to be? It is ideal to have the beer done fermenting before you put it into the...

    Adding oak chips

Hi all. Quick question. I want to add oak chips to an AHS vanilla porter. Here is my plan. Looking for suggestions and critique as I have never done this before. Soak 1 oz oak chips in makers mark for 2 weeks. Age open air or covered or does it even matter? Then I will add the oak chips and...

    Primary vs. secondary

I don't have my fermenter with me. I brewed this batch at home and went back to college. Is it vital that I rack to a secondary? It's an AHS Texas blonde. Would it be okay if I left it in the primary or should I drive back and move it to a secondary? Thank you.

    Kegging for the first time

What is the most common beginner mistake? What should I not do? I read a general article on how to do it. I hope it goes well.

    Primary not fermenting

Yeah I think I got a bit anxious when it stopped bubbling. I looked to much into the blowoff and didn't take enough gravity readings. I think everything was going okay and I mixed up the primary when it was not needed. Well now I know for next time. I'll also use a thermometer that is calibrated...

    Primary not fermenting

Hey y'all. Firstly happy thanksgiving! May you enjoy endless amounts of turkey and football (go texans). So I brewed a hefewiezen a few days ago but I having trouble getting it to ferment. I used a white labs 300 hefe yeast. I may have put it in a little to hot because I realized after I brewed...

    Adding fruit to beer

I am gonna stop by the brew store tomorrow. I was actually planning on doing an apricot hefeiweizen. I think I might use the real fruit and the extract, just a little less of each. Ill let y'all know how it goes! Thanks for the advice. Also, do I cook the fruit before I put it in? If so to what...

    Adding fruit to beer

Hi all, Im pretty new to brewing. But I have been pressured by my lady friends to make a fruity wheat beer. I was thinking of doing an apricot hefewiezen. I just wanted to get some ideas on how to do it. I was thinking about fermenting in the primary until FG is level and then racking to...
