Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

So I brewed this up on Saturday the 4th. Probably one of the best brew days I've had in a while, weather was perfect, brewday went exactly as planned, I hit all my numbers dead on and even got to enjoy a good cigar while doing it. My recipe was pretty much exactly as the OP's with the exceptions...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Ok, so update from 9/28 I've had this running on my latest batch of beer and everything seems like it's working pretty well. I know I need to get a thermowell so I can getter a better reading from the actual beer temp instead of a probe taped to the side with a block of styrofoam; but I've got...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Gezza, I currently have it running a test beer profile to see how everything runs with the temp changes up and down. So far I'm loving this thing as it gives me a whole lot more information and control than my old STC 1000. I only have a 7cu ft. freezer that I use for my ferm chamber so I was...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I've tried to search for it but haven't found it in this thread. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to configure their arduino to report to the BrewPi server over a network connection vs. the USB cable. I would like to keep my server in it;s current location where I already have power and...

High first runnings gravity, low overall efficiency?

Yeah I know necro post but I came across this looking for something else, figured someone else might too. To clarify, the efficiency % given in the first post was 65%, is this overall brewhouse efficiency, or mash efficiency? I know when I use beersmith I keep mine set at about 65-70% for...

    What to cold smoke?

Figured I would add this vid to this post as I'm contemplating cold smoking some fish this weekend with my new smoker. A How-to video on cold smoking salmon.

    Container growing in GA

Time to update for year 2. I was lazy and didn't really try to harvest much on first year growth, but all 5 varieties did pretty well reaching the top of their lines an average of about 16 - 18 feet tall. I left them up over the winter and let them die off and dry out naturally. Within the...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Yeah I was kinda afraid of that. I may just grab some from the LHBS before making it, was just trying to save a trip through traffic.

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

I'm getting ready to make this this weekend, but don't have any Columbus. I have plenty of Cascade and Centennial and Chinook though; would a blend of Chinook and one of the other two play well with this brew?

Og Lower then Pre Boil gravity.

Yeah just wanted to double check, still puzzling why the sugar content would be reading less. I would double check with a hydrometer for both the OG and pre-boil readings next time; something doesn't sound quite right with those refractometer readings.

Og Lower then Pre Boil gravity.

Wouldn't exactly explain the direction of change in the brix, but have you calibrated your refractometer recently?

Recipe Critique - Fibonacci Downward Spiral IIPA

It would be out of order and kind of not keeping with the theme but what about FWH, could they also be counted as 0 minutes since they technically go in before the boil starts?? :D

    Sight gauges

Go Here Currently they are having an issue with too many orders and their suppliers, but he does seem to make great quality sight guages and gives great customer service. I plan to get one for myself when I upgrade my kettle.
