    sanitizing teflon tape?

Thanks for the responses. I was concerned that bugs might somehow migrate the "wraps" of tape I use on the fittings in my plastic conical. I've never had any contamination problems, just curious.

    sanitizing teflon tape?

I just had a thought, is it recomended or necessary to sanitize the teflon tape used on brewery fittings? Thanks

Scuba's Rig Build 2: Judgment Day

I thought of doing the same thing, but the little plastic shims that support the shelves concerned me, heat wise speaking. S.S., are there any identifying marks, or manufacturer name on your cart?

Am I using a Therminator wrong?

In another thread I recently asked, "...any thoughts about pumping my hot wort through the CFC and back into my brew kettle via my whirl-pooling rig, (basically a long copper L, that causes the wort to whirlpool), recirculating till the whole batch is cool, then draining into the fermenter using...

$10 thru the wall therms, pics too!

FWIW, I've had good luck with my digital therm w/ the wire lead, (as pictured). I toss the probe in my mash, brew, beef tenderloin, and haven't had any problems. Maybe I just got lucky. POL, glad to see another Sky God. Love the IND L/O.

A bit confused on batch sparge water temp.

S.O. I was having a brain cramp about this too. I found an on-line mash water and sparge water temp calculator. try googling that. I also found an on line calculator to upscale your grain bill to accommodate the extra grain needed for batch sparging. Having too much free time on my hands, I...

    Propane Burner Temp Control Valve

H.O. I noticed that. I may do some research, and I'll post the results. I can't believe I'm the first homebrewer to stumble on this. If I am, then, "shotgun".

    Propane Burner Temp Control Valve

Has anyone had any experience with this propane burner temp control valve, aid if so, what are your thoughts. It looks like it my be a good option for heating mash/sparge water and for mash temp control. The price is right. Here is the link. Turkey Fryer Accessories, Turkey Fryer Stand

    Dealing with cold-break

To answer your question directly, that's what I already do. I guess I wasn't very clear with my Rube Goldgerg thinking. What I'm really trying to figure out is a way for the cold break to NOT end up in my fermenter. Ultimately, I'm trying to get a clearer beer, (I know, I know). BTW, how...

    Dealing with cold-break

Also, any thoughts about pumping my hot wort through the CFC and back into my brew kettle via my whirl-pooling rig, (basically a long copper L, that causes the wort to whirlpool), recirculating till the whole batch is cool, then draining into the fermenter using the kettle valve.

Using Knox gelatin for the 1st time

Intuitively, racking on top of the gelatin seems to make better sense. Also, what are your thoughts about using gelatin in a conical fermenter where no "secondary" fermentation takes place?

    Dealing with cold-break

I've just started using a counterflow wort chiller, and was wondering how to deal with the cold-break going into the fermenter. I think I don't want it to...am I correct? I use a converted keg for my HLT and kettle. I also have a spare converted keg. I move the wort around with a March pump...

    service life for plastic fermenters?

I hope this isn't too off-topic, but I just used one of my Ale Pales to do a batch of cider...now my bucket has an acid/citrus smell. Glad I didn't use my plastic conical. Any suggestions for removing the smell, or do I now have a dedicated cider bucket? FWIW, I was told never make root beer...

Is it OK to use a six gallon secondary for five gallons?

I've got five gallons of an American Amber in my plastic primary conical fermenter, and would like to move it to a six gallon glass carboy to add some holiday spices. My concern is the headspace. is it too much, or am I overthinking?
