    What's your "Best Of Styles"

That which is dead may never die... Amber ale is now solidly Ballast Point Calico, though other than the bottles a friend of mine found about a month ago, I can no longer get it where I live. Sale of the brewery better not kill their beer quality or I'll have to start brewing again:)...

    My first mead

Alrighty then. First post in it looks like almost two years:mad:. I got pretty busy with other things, and well, this mead is still in secondary in my fermenter:(. I just gave it a taste, and I don't know what to think since so much time has passed and this is my first shot at making a mead...

    My first mead

Great - thanks! I added the last of the yeast nutrient last night and stirred it up to degas, and there was a lot of CO2 being released. The gravity also moved about 8 - 10 points from the day before, so it is definitely working now. I think I may split the batch into five one-gallon...

    My first mead

This is probably yeast specific, but I'm wondering if there is a general rule for how long it takes to get to FG. I pitched Sunday late afternoon, and as of yesterday, gravity had dropped from about 1.090 to about 1.082 or so. I am getting no airlock activity, but I suspected the fit may not...

    My first mead

that temp is towards the middle of the range for that yeast if I remember. I think it was a wide range - 68 - 84 or something close.

    My first mead

Long time beer brewer, first time mead uh....maker? brewer? meader? Anyway, I sort of just winged it, figuring this is probably like beer making, and it will be mead in the end as long as I don't get an infection. True? Or are there any real gotchas that are not just tales and...

    Magic Chef not getting cold

Yes, but that know has never been touched. It's somewhere in the middle of the settings.

    Magic Chef not getting cold

I've got a bad feeling, but here goes: My 2ish year old keggerator, a Magic Chef, won't get below about 54 degrees. I took the temp controller off of it to use in my son's science project, and when I hooked it back up, 54 is all I got. I haven't been drinking much beer lately, and didn't...

    Moonshiners on Discovery Channel

No, it has ratings because it's hilarious. It's The Dukes Of Hazard trying to appear real with a drunken hillbilly falling off the roof. That could be a cop following us. We'd better gun it so they can bust us for speeding and see all the illegal ligger in the back. Good stuff.

    Corkage Fee for Beer?

Wine is definitely still king by miles in California. You're likely to see Blue Moon and possibly Fat Freaking Tire if you're lucky. I rarely even see a California beer for craps sake. I usually drink wine or water. I like wine, but usually by itself. Beer goes much better with food IMO.

    Blue Moon Clone

Success! I had to improvise here and there, but things turned out fine for my first wheat beer. I didnt have a bag, so took a couple gallons of boiling wort inside to the stove and boiled the oats, orange peel, etc. there, strained, and rerurned to the BK. Not much orange flavor, but i just...

    Blue Moon Clone

After about a million all barley batches, this is my first wheat beer. Is it normal to have about six feet of trub on the bottom of the fermenter?

    Blue Moon Clone

OK, just put my first wit into the bucket this morning. I went basically with recipe #4 with small changes based on ingredients on hand. Also drank my first Blue Moon last night just to see what all the fuss is about. Not bad. Still not a big fan of the style though.
