I'm going to start brewing in about three hours, and I'm wondering when I should boil some water for rehydrating my yeast? Seems like it might take awhile for the water to get down to 90 degrees after its been boiled. If I boil now, can the yeast sit in the water for a couple hours?
I bought the Cascade Pale Ale partial mash kit from Midwest Supplies, but the included instructions are for a two step (two vessel) sparge. I have my new 10 gallon pot and BIAB bag, so I'd like to figure out how to rejigger the instructions for BIAB.
The kit includes 3.3lb. of Light Malt...
Yes, already have a burner. I've been using a 7.5 gallon turkey fryer set-up with my extract brews, but I'm ready to step up to partial mashes and then BIAB all-grain.
I have $100 to spend, but would like to spend less so I can use the remaining money on ingredients and/or other brewing necessities. I have Amazon Prime, so shipping is free, and I've narrowed the contestants down to three finalists:
1. 11 gallon stainless - I've heard good things about...
I don't have a second pot that's large enough to handle two extra gallons of sparge water plus the grain, and I think it would be a better investment of my money to go ahead and buy a 40 quart pot now, rather than a smaller pot to use alongside my old 30 quart.
There's always something new to...
Thanks for the notes, everyone. I think doing a second dunk sparge is the way to go, but I'm not sure if I have a pot big enough for two additional gallons of hot water, plus the grain. If I'm going to need to buy another pot, I'd rather just go ahead and upgrade to a 40 quart now...
Always...
So, are you saying I should hoist up the bag over the kettle, and then pour the hot water over the grains; or should I put the bag in the second pot with the hot water, and then pour that into my boil kettle?
Hi guys,
I'm ready to make the jump from extract to AG using my current set-up, which is a plain 'ol 30 qt turkey fryer pot and burner. I'd like to do a no-sparge BIAB and use a simple recipe for the first few beers, mainly so I can focus on technique and process until I get the hang of...
