I'm going to try out a similar version of this recipe this weekend. I'm shooting for a slightly lower abv, but I plan on eliminating the crystal malt, and switching out some of the rye for flaked rye. Also, I'm going to add more hop when I get down to around 180 and whirlpool for 20 minutes. I'm...
Hello all. My goal is to clone the style of IPA's that Cellarmaker Brewing in San Francisco makes. The best other commercial example of this style I can think of is Grunion Pale Ale by Ballast Point. The general flavor I'm going for is super hoppy without the strong bitterness. I understand the...
I currently ferment in a chest freezer with a 2 stage temp controller, so I like having my temps dialed in both ways. I wouldn't be able to fit the chronical in the freezer so it would probably be in the garage/shed. I'm thinking it would probably be easier/cheaper to just add a tall collar to...
Has anyone setup a second temp controller to manage heat? It looks like a sweet setup, but my problem is usually too warm during the day then too cold at night. I wouldn't want to be switching out hot and cold water constantly.
Is it possible to add a heating element to the temp controller with their system? So you could have it cool during the day and warm at night without swapping hot and cold water in the reservoir?
I do this pretty often. Mash at night then brew then boil the next morning. I raise my temp up to 180 like mentioned above, then just keep the lid on and let it sit. The best beer I've made came from doing this so I don't think it hurts at all.
Bump. I just made it to Alpine this weekend and now I cant wait to try and brew Nelson, or any of their other beers. Hoppy Birthday especially. I've got a few bottles of Nelson I will be enjoying in the near future.
I just made 5 gal of Janet's Brown ale, which I think would give you just what you are looking for in terms of a hoppy chocolaty beer. Its my favorite beer I've made out of the 20 or so batches I've done to date.
