    RIS Bottling Question

Hi there. I am planning on bottling a Russian Imperial Stout that I've had aging since June of 2011. Since I'm almost certain there's no viable yeast left, I was planning on making a yeast starter today and combining that and priming sugar with the stout when I bottle it. I figured that would...

    Wild Hop Find

Now, if I plant these rhizomes in a pot today, won't that throw off their growth cycle seeing as how they are usually sprouting in April/May and not December? If I plant them now, will they need to be harvested earlier? I'm not that "hop savvy"

    Wild Hop Find

Ah, another question. I have the root cuttings in Ziploc bags with damp paper towels in my fridge. What do I do now? Should I plant them in pots? Keep them in the fridge? I just don't want them to get ruined before I get a chance to put them in the ground...

    Wild Hop Find

So, I was out hunting this past week in northern Wisconsin, and I came across a pretty cool find. I noticed these vines climbing up some saplings and low and behold, there were hops hanging off them! I broke up some of the cones and they were still loaded with yellow lupulin. They were...

    1940's Kegerator

Here's some photos right after I converted it. Ive cleaned it up quite a bit since then and I also found an original shelf that fits right above the kegs, so I can store hops, yeast, etc... Oh ad btw, I didn't put on that ugly as all hell drip tray. It was on when I bought it...lol

    1940's Kegerator

I have a 1948 Frigidaire that i got off of craigslist for 25 dollars. Ive been running it for a little over a year now and I was amazed at how cheap it is to run. I asked an old electrician friend if he had any input on why. He told me that back in the 40's and 50's, homes did not have nearly...

    Money for a brew system

Here's the website that i bought my jet burners from. http://www.cpapc.com/CHINESE-WOK-RANGES-C244.aspx?UserID=16249639&SessionID=NX4wZnyO{RWTkWgCMfV4 Some people knock the jet burners, but I have had no problems with them at all. They have both propane and natural gas burners for...

    Northern Discovery Hops?

I was bored online and ended up stumbling upon this hop farm called Silver Hops LLC and their unusual hops. Has anyone brewed with them or even heard of them? Seeing as how they come from Wisconsin, I'm definitely intrigued to try use something native to my state...

The Great Angle Iron Single Tier

And as far as the burner height goes, it was perfect, I got to temps quick and I didn't have problems with flames licking up the sides. And yes, that sight glass on the mash tun is for viewing wort clarity while I'm recircing. I love that thing!

The Great Angle Iron Single Tier

Well, I literally just finished the first brew. I am proud to say that the only "problem" I had was heat hitting the sight glass and the wort boiling in it. A little tin foil, and problem fixed! I hit all my numbers perfectly and finished with a little over 5 gallons of Altbier. Here's a few...

The Great Angle Iron Single Tier

Finally got the natural gas line run off of the barn and I now have FIRE!! I know that the flames are way too high, I just figured I would put 'em on full blast for the photos. Also got the pump bracket mounted and ready to go. The inaugural brewday is set for Friday! Doing a North German Alt...
