Cut off all the bines after harvesting hops?

If you have the ability to leave the bines after harvest do so for at least the first 2-3 years. This will help the roots significantly. In the spring before they are going to come up again remove the bines and clean up.

Outdoor Brewers - what do you do in the winter?

None of you know what winter is. I live 14 hours north of the border in Northern British Columbia. 18 hours of darkness in the winter and minus 40C or more. The summers more than make up for it all plus I love the snow and all the fun that can be had with it. I brew in my unheated shed with the...

    WHY are you making wine?

I enjoy the artistic side of it. I've done kits and just bottled one last night actually but my first wine was a dandelion that i created from scratch. I have some rhubarb and saskatoons that i'm going to do small batches with. I brew beer, cider, and mead so it seemed to fit. My wife would...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

I got the recipe from bbq pitboys on youtube. They are large onions cut into rings then wraped in thin-regular cut bacon then low and slow on the smoker for an hour or two till the bacon is nice and constricted. Then let them cool, batter in a nice thick beer batter and fry till golden brown...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Did a partigile today. Bigfoot barley wine and a little foot ale. Turned out good just waiting for things to cool before the yeast.

    Sunday Morning

Back at work for me. I had a glorious half day off yesterday (got called in). If the money wasn't worth it I'd for damn sure be at home. The bright side for me is today is paying for my new Browning 12g. Hope everyone is doing something they want to do and enjoying the day. Ryan

    Unusually cloudy

The drop in temp was completely uninsulated. I need to come up with a way of insulating that doesn't anger the wife. I brew out in my unheated shed in deep northern bc canada. (so it gets cold). I have some gelatin and different clearing agents at home for wine so I will give that a try. Next...

    Unusually cloudy

Both were at 152. They droped to 144 by the end of the hour. I was wondering and have read that I should do a 90min mash to help with conversion. I'm using the same grind as before which was already very tight. I end up with about 1/3 in flour. I'll go longer next time and if the amylase shows...
