    Oldest grain

Just did an extract kit where the grains were crushed three months prior to brewing. Turns out to be my best beer to date.

    Remove Corny rubber?

I can't make it airtight. The lip is tearing away from the body of the keg, on both sides of the lid at that. There are a couple of major dents down the side of it too, I wonder if someone just pressurized the hell out of it to get rid of the dents and in the meantime almost blew the lid off...

    yeast activity resumes after gelatin?

I figured that might be it and I just racked into the keg about 5 minutes ago. However, that aggressive bubbling was still happening when I started to keg, a full 24 hours since the gelatin was introduced. The carboy was sitting on the kitchen table a full 48 hours before I did the gelatin...

    Remove Corny rubber?

I have a keg that has a structural defect on the lip where the lid seats down. Todd at Keg Connection is going to swap it out and told me to keep the old keg (send him the disconnects and lid). Will I need to remove the rubber before taking it to the scrapyard? If so, how? If not, anything I...

    yeast activity resumes after gelatin?

Not feasible considering I broke my hydrometer about 4 brews ago:o:cross: and since I decided I was stressing out over it too much, I have failed to get a replacement. LHBS is over an hour away, and I doubt I'll be up there within the next week. I'll have one when I bite the bullet and go AG...

    yeast activity resumes after gelatin?

Last night, I threw some gelatin into a light lawnmower beer for tailgating. All activity had stopped before I put the gelatin in. This morning, it's crystal clear, I can see straight through the carboy. However, it's bubbling again. Pretty regular too, about 30 second intervals. Should I...

    gelatin after kegging

well, if i let it settle in the lagerator between now and the first game less than 3 weeks away and pull a glass before I move it, won't most of the trub (or whatever you call it at this point) that's settled out be sucked out of the dip tube?

    gelatin after kegging

Thanks BierMuncher. Trying to get it ready for tailgating in 20 days with a bunch of BMC drinkers. It tastes awesome but if it's not clear (at least in their solo cups) it'll never go over.

    bitter orange

We have natural/unwaxed/organic/tree-hugging oranges at our local Publix. Zested one using a microplane, dropped it in a big tea-ball infuser and put it in with the final hops at the end. Turned out pretty dang good, more of an orange essence than an orange flavor.

    gelatin after kegging

I have an Alaskan Amber clone that was still fairly hazy when I racked into the keg and I figured a few days in the fridge while carbing would help clear it up. It hasn't. Anyone know of any ill side effects if I let it warm up, depressurize, add gelatin then repressurize and chill?

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

I used apfelwein as an excuse to buy another carboy... other two are currently full! Trying 2lb brown sugar and no corn sugar. Having always used a primary, it's cool to see all the bubbles rising up the side in the carboy. 1833+5=1838

    Cane's, Zaxby's, and Guthrie's

I've had Guthries in my veins since 1998, same with Cane's. Went to school in Tuscaloosa and my roommate was from Slidell so I spent a good bit of time in Baton Rouge. Cane's and Guthrie's are about neck-and-neck, both way ahead of Zaxby's fingers. But Zaxby's has them beat in the variety...

    Student loans

My wife and I both have student loans. All of them were Direct loans from the federal government. Both of us consolidated our loans a year ago at 2.625%. Needless to say, our money market through a local CU earns the exact same amount of interest that this loan is costing us, so we only pay...

pin to ball conversion ad nauseum

Stopped by the LHBS (well, 60 miles away) this weekend with one of my 3-gallon cornies in tow. He was in the middle of cleaning a couple of Cornelius ball-locks and let me borrow the post to try it on the 3-gal.... fits perfectly. He had one set that was beat to hell that he offered to sell me...

    Sea Level Pressure

Here's your confirmation from a civil engineer who just happens to be a professional pilot ;) Edwort is right on. At sea level the atmosphere is 14.7 psi (or 29.92" Hg) on a standard day (15* C at sea level). Given a standard lapse rate (2* C per 1000 feet) the pressure at 18,000 feet is...
