White Labs Yeast Color - Significantly Darker

Hello, I received these three yeast packs from MoreBeer today. The two that are darker in color seem to be from a slightly older batch than the one that looks normal. I did knead all three slightly to make sure the color issue wasn't from settling or something similar. All were shipped...

    Ekuanot/Simcoe/Mosaic Double IPA Thoughts

Hello, I've been enjoying the last few IPAs I've brewed with Ekuanot/Equinox. I'm shooting for a double for my next recipe, and was thinking I'd try Ekuanot/Simcoe/Mosaic, at 1:1:1 for bittering, whirpool, and dry hop additions. Anyone brewed with this combo in an IPA or IIPA?

Split Lager Batch: One at 47, One at 67

@LLBeanJ Agreed, that's what I thought too. I'm pretty sure that once I take a gravity on the colder fermented one, it won't be finished. I just didn't know why. And I figured that bringing it up to room temp about a week ago would have given it a little boost to keep working, but the krausen...

Split Lager Batch: One at 47, One at 67

Hello, On 1/1, I brewed a 5-gallon IPL batch. I used Pilsen Lager Yeast (Wyeast 2007), and used a two stage yeast starter, 2L each time. BeerSmith calculated that I would have 536.8 billion cells after the two starters, and said I needed 548.5. I figured it was close enough. I split the...

Hoped To Pitch On Yeast Cake. Didn't Work Out.

Hello, I typically use Wyeast 1056 or WLP001 for the majority of my beers, which are pale/amber/brown/India Pale ales. I've been trying to expand into Belgian beers, and I recently brewed a Tripel which I'm happy with at bottling. The problem: This yeast (Wyeast 1388, Belgian Strong Ale)...

Starter Didn't Start, Pitched Another Yeast

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to reusing yeast. I had previously harvested some Wyeast 1056 (American Ale) from a pale ale I brewed back in September. I used this method: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/yeast-washing-illustrated.41768/ and put the four jars in the fridge. I...

    Water Help & Thoughts

@mabrungard I'm flattered you helped me with this issue. Thank you so much for your comment. Bru'n Water is a great program I've tried to use before, but I didn't have the complete water reports prior to today. I'll use your tool with Sample B and will definitely support it! Thanks so much!

    Water Help & Thoughts

Hello all, I moved to all-grain BIAB about 6 brews ago. Previously, I was extract only. My recent beers have been drinkable, but have a feeling focusing more on my water might help me improve. So, I pulled samples of the two different water sources I've been using and sent them to Ward Labs...

First BIAB - Mash Temp Control

Hello, Until recently, I had been an extract brewer. Wanting to start the process to all-grain, I decided to try BIAB and am very excited to do so. I'm worried about my mash temp. I'm using the NB Irish Red BIAB kit (3-gallons). My kettle is 8 gallons. The kit says to heat 5.5 gallons to...
