Harbor Freight Tools -- What works? and What doesn't?

My HF step drills didn't get hardened or something, they each worked the first time I made a cut in some sheet metal, and now they are duller than a butter knife.

Harbor Freight Tools -- What works? and What doesn't?

They're ok. Mine feel like they dragged them through the sandbox as part of the manufacturing process. Still better than trying to eyeball with a measuring tape though.

    Ginger Ale (kegged)

I'm on my second 2L batch of this. The first batch, scaled the ginger down directly to 1/2 Cup. That was way too much. Tasted good, but was HOT. The second time around, I cut it down to 3 Tablespoons, or just short of 1/4 cup. Ginger Flavor is still there, but not so spicy. I didn't scale the...

    McMaster Keg O-Ring List

some internal o-rings for sanke couplers: Perlick Mk-1 needs 3x #117 for the ID of the coupler body (this may be the same for newer Perlicks) Taprite "wing" style needs 1x #118 for the coupler body and 2x #115 for the probe. I also have a coupler which I do not know the brand of (has an "O"...

    keg coupler check valve

It's so that the beer doesn't drain out of your line and go everywhere when you disconnect the coupler. on the ones I have, It's just a ball inside the probe that covers the hole when flow tries to go backward.

Iowa brewers UNITE...do you want some corny kegs?

I need 3 or 4, and would like to not pay $70 each.

Where to get o-rings and seals for mixed collection of Sanke couplers?

I just bought a kegerator from a guy off craigslist, and he threw in 5 couplers, of different kinds. One is a Perlick lever type, a couple are Taprite wing style, and two are some other kind with a large "O" stamped in them and a picnic pump. they are all older, and everything rubber internally...

Harbor Freight Tools -- What works? and What doesn't?

The pick set (dental style) I bought was trash. The ends would straighten out under the slightest amount of pull. It's like they somehow skipped a hardening step or something at the factory.

    Gelatin made my cider cloudy

Thanks for the good pictures. This matches my results, even though I used bentonite.

    Basket lined with SS mesh

i saw a handheld drywall mud mixer at menards the other day that looked identical to the potato masher in my kitchen, except bigger and with a longer handle.

    When to add bentonite?

Which? I added the gelatin after the fermentation had settled down. Then I gave it a couple weeks to see if it would settle out on its own, but it didn't. I was trying to get the batch done in time for Christmas. There shouldn't be any flavors with either as they settle out, and you...

    When to add bentonite?

I did a bunch of research on bentonite about a month ago. It needs agitation to work, because it is a lot heavier than most other clarifiers; this can be provided by the action of the bubbles produced during fermentation. It will also work later, but you need to provide the agitation yourself...

    Gelatin made my cider cloudy

I had this happen to me. It didn't clear up after 2 1/2 weeks. I fixed it by adding Bentonite; it was much cheaper than kieselsol. I had to do two additions, but it got all the gelatin out. The first addition (at half strength) kinda worked, then the second full strength one was amazing; as soon...

    GF Honey Kolsch/Pale

I actually tried using gelatin and cold crashing with this batch as I did this in the mr beer keg and could fit it in the fridge. It didn't seem to make a difference at all at the time scale I was trying (days). 9 months after brewday it's pretty clear though.

Added Gelatin to fairly clear cider now CLOUDY!

I bottled this up last night. If this happens, there is hope! After I dumped the gelatin in and it turned opaque as milk, I had basically no hope that The haze would clear up at all. Now you can actually see through the bottle!
