    De-labeling.

It's winter in Miami and the pool water is a tad too chilly at 76 degrees for conventional use. So....having just gotten back into brewing after several years of not brewing due to a relocation, I need to re-establish my bottle collection which means collecting all I can from everywhere I can...

    Blizzard

Yeah, me too, but my idea of a polar plunge is having to step off the back of the boat when the water is only 76 degrees because I have to pee after I drank too much homebrew. But wait...my boat has four toilets. Nevermind. :ban:

    Brewery names--what's your story?

When I got my brewing equipment back about a month ago, after an 8-year hiatus, I got my friend into brewing. We refer to my friend as "the mermaid" because she looks like one. I live on a yacht in Miami, and cannot brew beer on it because it moves too much, the temperature fluctuates, and...

    Bottling while still bubbling

After bottling the pale ale, the wheat had settled down and stopped bubbling, so we bottled it. I am now thinking the bubbling came from moving it from one room to the other and placing it up on the countertop for racking into the bottling bucket. I am now less concerned that something went...

    Bottling while still bubbling

Thank you for the quick response. Gravity reading...confession...In all my years of brewing, I've never taken a reading and my hydrometer that I never used didn't surviving the trip from up north down to Miami. I'm not making excuses, but rather, just admitting that I never use the hydrometer...

    Bottling while still bubbling

I have a wheat beer that has been in the secondary for 2 weeks now, after having spent 10 days in the primary, for a total of 3 weeks fermentation. It had completely stopped bubbling at the end of 10 days. I then moved it to the secondary to help in clarifying as it had a very large pile of...

    Share your IPA hop scheme

I'm a bit of a hophead, but here's my hop schedule for my pale ale for a 5 gallon brew: 1.5 oz Northern Brewer at 60 min. 1.5 oz. Columbus at 15 min. 1.5 oz. Cascade at 15 min. 1.5 oz. US Golding at 15 min. .75 oz. Cascade for dry hopping in the secondary .75 oz. Columbus for dry hopping in the...

    Hops for a Wheat Beer?

I'm going to make a wheat beer tomorrow (Sunday). It's been about 8 years since I brewed, and I can't find, or remember, my recipe, but I very specifically remember the 3 pounds of honey, Weihenstephan yeast, and Hallertaur hops. I'm going to go with this: Steep: 0.5 pounds flaked oats 0.5...

    Gypsum? Irish Moss?

Thanks. It's good to be back. I'm off to the one and only homebrew supply store in the Miami area. I hope it is a decent supply store. Brewing is a little more difficult down here due to the heat, and it's definitely less popular. I sure hope I don't have mail order supplies as that will...

    Gypsum? Irish Moss?

I have not brewed in about 8 years, but I'm planning to light the burner tomorrow. This past week, I was going through all of my brewing equipment that I just got returned to me, taking an inventory of what's there and what I need to buy and/or refurbish (such all of the hoses). Anyway, I came...

Salt water effect on copper chiller

It won't hurt it. We put little tubes of copper in the sea strainers of the boat's air conditioning systems to keep the barnacle growth down inside the cooling coils of the condensing units. And the best saltwater bottom paint is made with copper dust. :) Copper and saltwater...no problem.

Greetings - New Brewer From Dayton, Ohio

Welcome. Why is that when I lived in Dayton, I didn't know anyone who brewed, or anyone who ever even heard of anyone who brewed?! Brew days were so lonely, but I enjoyed my obsession. I brewed just about every Saturday and Sunday. Oh well....I live in Miami, FL now, and it seems to be even...

    Cheers from Coconut Grove (Miami)!

Thanks. Just took an inventory of the equipment tonight and made a list of what I need to get started again. After all these years (appears to be 9 years by the last homebrew receipt dated 2004), only one broken carboy and a broken hydrometer (I never used that anyway), and all the hoses need...
