Yes my FG was 1.009, not 1.09 lol. The beer is definitely not flat, it just tastes almost watered down which is strange since I nearly hit my expected OG and FG on the nose. I'll let it sit another couple weeks and see if it improves
Hi all - did my first AG batch 3 weeks ago (Northern Brewer Bavarian Hefeweizen), recipe below:
- 5.5 lbs. Weyermann Pale Wheat malt
- 4 lbs German Pilsner malt
- 1oz Tettnang @60 mins
- White Labs Hef yeast, dont remember the actual strain
Did a BIAB mash @ 156 degrees for 60 mins, 10...
So I made a heady topper clone yesterday and double pitched WLP008 at about 6pm. I originally had it in my Mini-brew conical fermenter with a small blow off attachment. At 3pm today I checked on it and it had lifted the top off of the conical as it doesn't seal super tightly, so I transferred it...
Firstly - why do you think its a 6 gallon kit? i've never seen a 6 gallon extract kit from NB, and I just looked and it says 5 gallon.
EDIT: Weird - within the "additional information" tab on the product screen it says 5 gallons but within the recipe itself it says 6 gallon - very misleading...
I guess it isnt THAT crazy but I have a Belgian Tripel in primary:
-1.08 OG
-FG should be 1.01
-Opened it after 2 weeks to take a hydro reading but there was still a thick cap of foam so closed it back up
-2 days after opening it, foamed up into airlock and I rigged a blowoff tube, and it is...
So just as an update to this, I gently swirled the fermenter and about 3 days later, the foam started creeping into my airlock and I had to rig up a blowoff tube. Could it still be fermenting? It's been 2 weeks but the ambient temperature in the basement is only about 63.

Shaking it won't cause any issues? I think I'll just give it a bit of a gentle rocking and check in about a week or so

Yeah as it's gonna be about an 8% sipper and has a fairly high OG, I am going to let it sit in secondary for about 3 months and also don't want to wait that long before I brew again lol

So i went to transfer my Belgian Tripel to a 6 gallon carboy, and when I open the primary fermenter there is about 2 or 3 inches of beautiful, thick white foam on top of the beer. I was taken aback as I have never seen that before but I think it's a good thing. Should I hold off transferring to...
hey guys - so I am ready to bottle my first dry-hopped IPA, I transferred the carboy out into where I'm going to bottle it, and I noticed there are still a good amount of hops sitting on top...is this normal? Its actually been in primary for 1.5 weeks, then transferred to secondary and dry...
Thanks man I do have a local shop right around the corner, I just wanted to try one of Austin Homebrew's clone kits. I'll do as you suggested and if its not bubbling after a couple days I'll get some more and re-pitch, thanks again!
So I ordered a kit from Austin Homebrew and part of the kit was White Labs WLP023 Burton Ale yeast, and it had a "cool pack", however it was anything but cool after the 4 day delivery - is this gonna be OK to use for my brew tomorrow? I put it in the fridge right away when it was delivered.
