    Pumpkin Ale Questions

You don't need to bake the Libby's pumpkin mix, just toss it into the boil. 60 minutes is a good start or even at 30 if you want to save some of the aromatics. The spices can be added at anywhere from 15-0 minutes of the boil. I'd say later the better. Aromatics over flavor is my thought. I've...

    Partial Grain Question

Yeah. Scrap the instructions and go with your usual brew day. Steep the grains then add the dme. No problem. The ingredients that came with the kit are no different than what you've used before. F 'em! Do what works for you!

    Regarding bottling....

You'd be okay leaving it in primary. Of course, racking it off into secondary off the yeast cake may ease your mind a little bit. Either way it will be fine.

Black IPA Recipe Critique - Am I Going Overboard?

However, I only used debittered Carafa 3 in the hot mash for 60 minutes and the amount of color and flavor that came out was amazing. I think the roast flavor is obviously present but sits right underneath the hops. I assume the cold steeping is similar to cold pressed coffee, right? You'd...

    Hop in the Dark Clone

What if you added them in late in the mash? Or just added the black barley late in the mash? 20-15 minutes or so? The only problem is that a lot of flavor will be left behind due to the shorter mash time. Definitely a balance that needs trial and error. I put carafa 3 late in the mash and it...

Your Black IPA/Cascadian Dark Ale input

+1 on the Sublimely. I just brewed one and it should be ready to go sometime next week but upon taste testing between transfers I found it pretty nice. I agree though it is hard to reach that balance between a nice and balanced roasted malt flavor and still have an aggressive hop profile...

American IPA Citra and Chinook IPA

That sounds awesome! Citra is quickly becoming one of my favorite hops to use! How is it as a dry hop?

    IPA recipe thoughts

Like it was said before, You should add the hops at the start of the boil. What is the AAs on the Summit, 15+? Just add less than 1oz at 60 minutes if you are concerned about a harsh bitterness.

    Bottling day sanitizing

It depends on your dishwasher. Some have a sanitize or high heat option and that has worked for me in the past. Bottled and didn't have any problems. If you use a dishwasher without the sanitize button I would just use high heat and no soap. Here is a link.. Hope this helps...

    Brewing my first FWH brew.

I love FWH! I thought about doing that yesterday for my pale ale but just went on with original recipe! Sounds delicious. Let us know how it turns out. Cheers!

    No Bottle Caps!

Call hobby or craft stores. The ones in my area sometimes carry them. It's worth a shot.

    Short Wort

Handy tool........ http://www.kotmf.com/tools/prime.php You could. Do you just have the 5oz priming sugar pack from your LHBS?

    Short Wort

Did you hit your intended FG? Did you put 5 gallons into the carboy? Did you lose the half gallon transferring to secondary or bottling bucket? Personally, I think hitting your targets is more important than being shy a half gallon. If you were to add top up water you would have wanted to add...
