    Belgian Strong Dark Recipe Feedback

I pulled the chocolate but everything else was already mixed and waiting to be crushed. I dropped the last hop addition. My sour mash turned out fantastic and it seems to play well with the coriander. I guess I'll see how all the other adjuncts do in a few months. I do plan on doing another...

    Belgian Strong Dark Recipe Feedback

Excellent link; thanks! So it's all in the candy sugar, well this should be interesting. I followed instructions in this thread and made my own deep amber [290*]. It tastes fantastic, fruit and mellow caramels. Here's hoping it ferments out with the dark fruit complexity that you got with...

    Belgian Strong Dark Recipe Feedback

I'm putting together a recipe for a Belgian strong dark with a bit of twist; a partial soured mash. I know the MO isn't exactly the best choice for a base but its what I have so its what I'm using. I threw the Carapils in there for body and head retention, I'm not sure if it'll actually do...

5 gallon boil to 2.5 gallon boil recipe conversion?

AFAIK, you will get less hop utilization with a partial boil but it shouldn't affect your extracts. [As long as you don't scorch things] Did you mean to half the carafa? 0.15 lbs does not equal 4 oz, 0.25 lbs equals 4 oz. I don't use beersmith so can't speak to that.

JW Lees Manchester Star Porter Recipe?

So I had the pleasure of tasting a Manchester Star a few nights ago and have since been looking for hints on how to gin up a recipe to get something close to it. It's not listed at all on JW Lees website. I haven't tasted the sweet chocolate-vanilla-marshmallowness that this beer has mid...

    English Pale Ale Recipe Feedback

Thanks Hemsworth! I'll have to try it again including the maize, I'm boiling my modified recipe above as I type. Mine might be a little maltier than Bass, but I'm fine with that. Winter is coming and this is just what the doctor ordered. I'm sure it'll come out great using Notty. I'm...

    English Pale Ale Recipe Feedback

Great ideas. I dropped the two row and the maize, bumped the MO up to nine pounds, and swapped the chinook for 1.5oz of willamette. I'll might also add a little carapils to get a little more body and mash a bit lower as well. This was exactly the feedback I was looking for. [and simplified my...

    English Pale Ale Recipe Feedback

I'm planning on brewing a Bass like pale ale tomorrow and figured I'd troll for a little feedback from the wealth of knowledge that exists here. I'm looking for a little malt roundness in this pale but don't want to it too sweet. I'm going back and forth on the amount of MO. Any...

I use QBrew as well. Mediocre, yes but the best I've found that is both free and will run on debian.

Heatstick Epoxy Question - JB Weld

The JB weld had a full week to cure before I tested it. [other things got in the way] Gremlyn1 - After boiling for awhile unplug it, pull it out and smell your exposed JB weld. It was very apparent coming off mine. HSM - Your heatstick [pictured in the heatstick = Awesome thread] looks very...

    Anti-Freeze for Cooling?

If you use water keep contamination in mind. I've seen some PC water cooled systems grow some pretty nasty micobes when tap water was used. Use distilled water and maybe add a little starsan to keep the funk out.
