Never brewed - wanting to jump right into all grain

I jumped right into all grain last year and I'm glad I did. I've learned just about everything from this forum and a friend that brews. I still haven't actually watched him through a brewday but I watched a couple youtube vids about the process and knew I'd enjoy it. I wasn't wrong, I brewed 70+...

fixing CO2 leak in gas manifold ball valve

Mine does the same thing to. If you're concerned about it leaking try submerging it under water. If you get bubbles you gotta leak. Mine seems fine, it only "leaks" when I'm moving it.

The original Lager thread.. Everything you ever wanted to know or ask

Thanks. I'll do it this way next time. My last one i wasn't sure so i lagered, bottled and let carb. Then lagered again. What a waste of time. This will save me some headache for sure.

The original Lager thread.. Everything you ever wanted to know or ask

I'd like clarification of the botteling process. Do you bottle after lagaring? Once bottled, do they just condition at ale temp or should they go back into cold storage?

Making homemade specialty malts, Caramels, Chocolates, Toasted, etc.

Well my calculated mash efficiancy with these grains and my new mill was around 103%... So either my scale is off or my grains are a bit better then average. Either way the 2lbs of crystal I made didn't have any negitive effect on my mash efficiancy at all that I can see. My total grain bill was...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Chocolate Oatmeal Porter

Reporting in. I brewed this in november. LHBS was out of chocloate malt so I used all pale chocolate instead. Probably tastes a little lighter then the original recipe but it's still pitch black. I gave a bunch away for x-mas and it was well recieved. Great portor recipe, I'll revisit it again...

What to do with a starter?

if you move it out to the garage, just make sure it doesn't freeze at night. From temps you listed, it wouldn't appear to be a problem.

Wyeast 3763 Roeselare showed up at my door frozen :(

This is anouther reason starters are a good benifit. You can tell if your yeast is good before brewday. In this case the smack pack swelled so you know the yeast is active and wasn't destroyed. The freeze probably effected viabillity though and you are probably pretty short on your pitch...

Specialty Grain Brewing Process - Ales

I use a refractometer and found the calculator at brewersfiend appears pretty accurate when compared with a hydro sample. So I'll take OG with refract and monitor fermentation with it as well. To record final gravity I usually double check with a hydrometer to be sure, but most of the time it's...

Anybody not strain hops from kettle to carboy

With the last dipa I did (Pliny kit from morebeer) there would have been about 3/5 of my brew lost to the hops if I left it behind so I dumped it all in. After primary I cold crashed and was able to transfer all my clear beer over, the hops settled out with the trub during my cold crash. The...

Making homemade specialty malts, Caramels, Chocolates, Toasted, etc.

I did two lbs of 2 row. I noticed the water I did my "mash" in changed color a little. I wonder how many points I lost to the process. I should have taken a measurement but didn't think to until I was watching it swirl down the drain. I just got my own mill so I won't really have any idea on the...

    Primary/Secondary Bucket vs. Carboy

I prefer to primary in the bucket because it's easier to clean then a carboy. I've read glass is best to avoid oxidation but I've never had a problem in the plastic bucket. I only use a secondary if I'm dry hopping.

    Any other gamers here?

I agree the story line is a bit all over. That reminds me though that I should advocate bioshock infinite. Probably my favorite story game so far.
