Hi, found this recipe online. What do you think? Where it says water to dilute, does this mean I add 5 litres after the boil?

Ruby Ale (1st attempt)
Volume Before Boil: 27.00 l Volume After Boil: 18.00 l Water Added To Dilute: 5.00 l Volume At Pitching: 23.00 l 3.5kg Maris Otter Pale Malt
240g Crystal Malt
140g Carapils Malt
100g Chocolate Malt
10g Fuggles (6.0% alpha) (90 mins) 9g Challengers (7.7% alpha) (90 mins)
14g Fuggles (6.0% alpha) (30 mins) 9g Challengers (7.7% alpha) (30 mins)
20g Styrians (3.1% alpha) Aroma Hops
14g Fuggles (6.0% alpha) Aroma Hops
SafAle US-05 Yeast
Target OG 1.040 Expected FG 1.006 Expected ABV: 4.5%

That's what it looks like to me. 18l +5l = the 23l into fermenter. Of course you could add the extra 5l into your BK and not bother with a water addition after the boil. I suspect the original recipe brewer either had a smallish kettle, or boiled off more water than expected.

Yeah, I think so. I'll just get it as close to the full volume as I can from the sparge then top up the BK if needs be.

This confused me, i thought it was a clone of McMenamins Ruby Ale here in Portland region which has none of these things in it...

It says add 14g Styrians as aroma hops.
Would you add that post boil or for the last 10 mins?
Thinking of upping it to 20g too. Any thoughts)?
