Hey everone, just a quick question. I've never used Irish moss before but am trying it this time. The question is...after I add it w/ 15 min left in the boil, do I need to strain it back out before the wort goes into the fermenter, or do I just leave it in there w/ the hops and let it all settle out during fermentation and clarification? Thanks for any insight.

You don't ever HAVE to strain, because all the trub will settle out in the fermenter eventually. That' said, though, I always strain my wort going into primary. I cool it and then pour it through a sanitized strainer and it catches most of the big goop.

If you are dumping everything from the kettle into the fermenter, skip the moss. Really defeats its purpose and one less thing in the bottom of the fermenter.

I put my leaf hops in knee-high nylons and toss them into the boil. I add my irish moss directly to the boil and ignore it from that point on. I end up siphoning some into my primary, but it settles out an that's good enough for me. :)
