Is there a certain point where yeast dies off and carbonating with sugar is impossible? Will the yeast die or become dormant until it gets more food? What is the lifespan of a typical ale yeast. How does yeast survive lagering? Lots of questions about yeast. Just curious.
Yeast can go dormant at low temperatures, and will survive even freezing (which explains lagering). If you're worried about yeast being able to carbonate, add more yeast to the bottling bucket.
Yeast cells are some tough lil critters. If it's too hot,they die. If it's too cold,they go dormant. I've read stories on here where beer sat in primary for 5 months or more,& still came out good.
By & large,this question is def in the gray area. There lifespan is relavent to the conditions they're in. For most ales' time in primary,I don't woory about it.
