Help With a broken spigot

I have a plastic spigot that came through the mail with a broken nylon nut. I looked around everywhere I could think of and the best I could come up with was a PVC schedule 40 adapter with the right thread pattern.

My question is this. Is PVC schedule 40 going work inside my bucket? Will it give off taste? Toxins or anything else I should worry about?

The guy at the hardware store seems to think it should be ok. It is made for cold water in your house. He theory is that if it is ok for drinking water it should be ok for beer?

Is that a safe assumption?

as long as it isn't heated up it should be fine. PVC is drinking water safe as far as i know.
