Default Boil volume vs batch volume

I've been reading various recipes for my next batch. Can someone tell me what the difference is between boil volume and batch volume?

Boil volume is what you start your boil with. Batch volume is what you wind up with in your fermentor.

No yeast, no beer. No beer, no civilization. Therefore, we really have yeast to thank for all our modern-day conveniences and tasty beer
