Have ordered conical fermenter and have a few questions:
1) After the vigorous fermentation ceases, dumping the sediment is the same as transferring to secondary fermentation? Sort of a stoopid question but I want to be sure I do not botch the first batch. When 'xactly is the best time to dump?

2) If cold crashing is accomplished I presume this precludes the ability for in-bottle carbonation?

Will probably have more queries in future....or maybe there is a source which offers a step-by-step process from wort to the bottle relating to a conical?

Thanks in advance.

Don't know much about conicals, but cold crashing does not preclude bottle carbonating if you only crash for a couple of days. There should still be enough yeast in suspension to get the job done, even if the beer is clear.
