Found a recipe I would really like to try...its an American Stout

https://byo.com/stories/item/2341-american-stout-style-profile

I am trying to get it into Brewtarget as an extract...with a 2.5 gallon boil and top it with approx 3 gallons of fresh water prior to pitching the yeast.

I am trying for an initial steeping of the grains and then a 60 minute boil...

I just cant get Brew target to accept any of the inputs ....

any help would be appreciated

I have been using brewtarget for a while and tried doing an extract brew with it recently but couldnt seem to get it to do what I wanted.

I would keep trying if I were you. I too want to make it work!

Did you try updating your equipment details?
(Clicking on that pot button 4th from the left)

Here's a surface-level rundown, let me know if there is something specific that isn't working for you...

Open BrewTarget, click the blue "+" button on the top left for a new recipe.
Enter the name, click OK.
In the middle of the screen, you'll see fields for "Target batch size" and "Target boil size"
Enter 2.5 gallons for target boil size, and 5 (or 5.5, or whatever your target batch size is) for your target batch size
Enter your ingredients using the different tabs (fermentables, hops, yeast, etc) and double-click on the "Amount" field to enter the amount you are using.

That should get you pretty close. You can get into setting up your equipment profile to help fine-tune the results. Does that help, or is there perhaps a more specific part of the process that isn't working for you?
