I am in the middle of doing a hlt snd want to do a ss braid false bottom. What size copper pipe do you use to go in side the ss braid. I know I want to use a braided water line and take out the rubber hose.

So my question is what size water line and copper pipe to use? I am thinking a compression fitting to screw in to my 1/2" ball vale conection.

*edit* Sorry for the confusion , I am in the middle of doing another cooler and want to use ss braid with a copper pipe in the middle. What size copper pipe fits in the braid off a braided water line?

I just built my tun using a 5 gallon round igloo cooler. I did not put copper tubing inside of my SS braid and it works like a champ, i do need to add a dip tube though to help get that last little bit of wort out of the cooler.

So what the OP is looking to do is prevent his braid from crushing.

OP, why not just take the braid to Home Depot and find out what fits?

Also, the method I've heard of, (but not tried yet), is take copper pipe, drill holes in it, wrap it with thick gauge copper wire, (wrap in a loose spiral), then put all that inside the braid. The copper wire keeps the braid from sitting against the pipe, opening up more surface area on the braid for transfer. Then, the wort goes through the braid, through the holes, and into the copper pipe, where it drains out....

I've only done two batchees in my 5 gallon round cooler, but I use a 1 inch SS braid for a water heater and it has worked beautifully. No collapsing. But again I've only used it twice, so not a whole lot of experience there.
