My grandmother used to make rootbeer, she used a collection of old returnable soda bottles with cork lined caps to seal them. I ended up with that stuff when she passed, the bottles are long gone but I ran across a box of caps and am wondering if they are worth using. They have been in a covered box and appear clean and have not rusted or corroded. I'm thinking that I'm going to use a few on the next several batches I bottle to see if I get any foul results with them. Any thoughts on using these?

Good luck!

The cork has probably dried up and or rotted by now. They were not as effective or cheap as plastic seals. That's why the industry moved away from them.

If they are fresh and aren't allowed to dry out they work reasonably well.

I'd try to use them if they seem reasonably not rotted out. I'd only do this of course if I could make some sort of super old recipe in some crazy looking old bottles.
