I got a 3-way Tapright secondary regulator that has barbs on both ends. i.e. it will function as a pass through instead of being plugged on one end. Why would they do this?

I'd like to replace the second barb with a plug, but so far have been unable to even budge the flare fitting from the regulator body.

Notice that there are barbs on both sides. Any gas I apply to the right side will pass straight through the regulator body.

I put a gas disconnect on the out side and use it for force carbing. They make a model with a plug on one side, but that's a different part number.

My Tapright primary regulator had some kind of thread sealing compound that hardened. This made it difficult to unscrew. Once you break that seal it should be easy. You gotta turn really hard. Just be careful. The brass parts are relatively delicate and bend easily.

What irritates me is that the pic on Bev. Factory's site clearly shows a barb on only one side, but this is what I got when I ordered.

I'll just put a disconnect on the out side and use it for force carbing like suggested above.

And send CO2 tank pressure directly to a keg?
Bad juju...

Cheers!

No, there's a primary regulator on the cylinder. That feeds 30PSI to the secondary, which then splits it three ways for different serving pressures. I usually force carb at 30psi for 24 hours then put the keg on whatever I want the final pressure to be.

A point if you put a gas disconnect on the pass-thru side. Get a disconnect with a check-valve built in....like this.

Beverage Factory screwed me too on my regulator. I asked for no inlet and my order took about a week for them to ship the part. I'm sure they had to ask Taprite for a special order, which took some additional time, but I still got a 4way regulator with an inlet on it. Not a big deal but still I wouldn't go back to them again if I had a choice.

I'm still thinking I'd like to get a plug for the one side. Assuming that I should be able to get one from Menard's or HD that will fit?

I'd rather not have to worry about having beer back up into the regulator, check valve or not. The three outlets all have check valves built in, so I'm good there. Only other issue is breaking that bond on the existing fitting. Hard to hold onto the regulator assembly and still get a wrench on the fitting.

How is a check valve in a ball lock disconnect any different than the check valve in the shut-off?
If it is in your mind, I crafted a plug from Home Depot supplies. I ran a short piece of tubing from the out to a connector that had a barb on one side and was male threaded. I could then add a cap.

It isn't, it's just one more piece that I don't really want to buy.

I was able to break the barbed fitting looks with the proper-sized deep socket. I'm sure I'll be able to find a plug that will fit it. I was more worried about whether the threads would be left- or right-handed. I've read elsewhere that some Tapright fittings have LH threads.

Get some teflon tape from Home Depot (about 50 cents) and buy this plug from Home Depot to plug it. I have a Taprite 4-way secondary regulator, and this fit mine. Like you, I had a barb on the right hand side of my regulator. I also purchased it from Beverage Factory. This plug is working fine for me and I have my 4-way in service with it.
