Hello, this is my first attempt to make cider and my precious liquid is almost ready to be bottled as it’s been sitting in my basement for 3 months and is almost clear. I decided to try some just to see how dry it would taste as the yeast as fully consumed all sugar and the taste seemed fine except for the feel in mouth of the cider that feels somewhat greasy

I don’t know if I’m making myself clear but when the cider hits you’re mouth, the taste is not very dry and it leaves you with a weird(non-pleasant) tick greasy feel in the mouth. Taste seems fine but the texture is not what I was expecting. Can anyone explain this, did I do anything wrong and could this be temporary?

I've used:
- preservative-free cider
- Larvin K1-V116
- hot mix sparkaloid and bentonite
- racked 4 times as I did not know better

Thanks for you're help,

Naeco

Does it taste buttery at all? Slickness is another common description for diacetyl. I've never used that yeast, so maybe someone else can chime in as to whether it is known for producing diacetyl.

It does not taste like butter but has a slippery fell in mouth so I read about diacetyl and it could be the cause of the problem. Is there any way to get rid of it as the cider as not been bottled yet and wont be for another month as it's still clearing with sparkaloid.

Thanks again !
