Hi, Day 2.

My useless Airlock still isn't working (ordered a new one)

Opened my fermenting bin lid and the juice is bubbling away nicely, how will I know when to demijohn it as have no airlock bubbles to indicate.

Let it sit 2 weeks and/or buy a hydrometer and take 2 readings 3 days apart. If it doesn't change, it's done.

What kind of airlock? They are pretty infallible because of the simplicity of the design. The problem may not be in the airlock but in your bucket. If there is a poor seal between the lid and the bin then CO2 will escape through that space and you won't see anything escaping through the liquid in the airlock. The other possibility is that you have a poor seal between the airlock and the grommet or bung.

The fermenting bin isn't great to be honest but the airlock is quite strange. ImageUploadedByHome Brew1408975333.472672.jpg surely it shouldn't matter too much as the co2 is still escaping right?

I haven't used my hydrometer(s) except the proof one since getting a refractometer. I love it.... only a drop needed to take a reading. With small batches it's a real asset.

That's a normal 3-piece airlock, nothing wrong with it. I don't like them myself, but they are quite common.
