This is my first brew with WLP001 California Ale. I've never seen a fermentation like this!
-5 gallon AG batch of DFH 60 minute clone (toned down version of the recipe at the recipe forum here).
-OG only 1.055, so didn't bother with a blow off tube.
-6.5 gallon ale pale in my basement at ~68F.
-Small starter, but I started it the day of brewing so it only had less than 12 hours on the stir plate.
Day 1: Brew day.
Day 2: First signs of activity in the airlock, bubbling away like normal. Cool.
Day 3: Airlock encased in krausen (oops!), some on the lid. Pop it off, clean it up, leave it be for the day while I'm at work to avoid any possible blow up issues. Come home, put the airlock back on.
Day 4: Bubbling like normal, cool.
Day 5: Bubbling like normal. Cool, I must be in the clear...
Day 6 (today): Airlock filled with krausen again, some on the lid.
5 days and it's still this crazy! I've never seen this before. I didn't think it would be this way with an OG of 1.055, but I guess I was wrong. This yeast is crazy active!
