Hey Guys,

I ran my first starter yesterday. I calculated using Mr Marty's calc. I have a Hanna stirplate.

I use a 2000ml beaker.

My question, after 24 hours of growth and 24 hours of decanting, how thick will the yeast cake be on the bottom normally? Mine is very thin. I wanted to ask before I pitch it.

Thanks!

Tough to answer, depends on size of starter, viability of yeast and how much DME used but it could be anywhere from 1\8-1/4" thick IME

I used 1400ml of water, 140g of DME and the Yeast was brand new WLP090 San Diego Super Yeast.

I think mine is thinner than that, but the base of the flask is pretty big.

Sounds like it's fine to me:) The yeast alone out of the pack wouldn't even cover the bottom of a typical flask in any sort of layer so you definitely grew yeast!
