Hey so I was talking to the guy at the hardware store and he said no don't use that its not safe for human consumption. So I contact the rep from benzomatic and he says that it is industrial grade oxygen but it is not for human consumption. Can I use this in my beer for aeration. I am no chemistry major but oxygen is oxygen but also i don't wanna be inoculating my beer with bacteria. What does everyone else use for aeration.

It's all about purification certification. Medical grade O2 requires a script and unless you're in fire or EMS is hard to come by, however, technical scuba divers use welding 02 daily to mix our diving gasses.

Doubt the guy from a business standpoint will feel comfortable telling customers to use items not certified for human use. lol I would imagine tis is not good from a liability standpoint.

It all comes from the same bulk tank, and there is nothing biological that can live in a >99.5 % o2 environment. I have worked in the industrial/medical gas industry for my more than 20 years and I have been using "industrial oxygen" for the last 4 in my brewing process.

I use the same thing, but I just added the HEPA filter from my aeration system I got. Not sure if it makes any difference but why not..
